Nintendo Consolidated Financial Results + Total of VC games sold

yeah, I think I've spent like $60 on points so far. I have all the roms on my laptop but I still feel the need to buy the good ones for some reason. couldnt resist having zelda, smb, fzero etc on my wii.

Do you know anything about the XBL Arcade? It's not just re-released old games. There are original games on there too. Plus at least they add online functionality. Would it kill Nintendo to add a leaderboard or something?

I think both the VC and XBLA are great but Nintendo has to step it up because the games they have been releasing so far are garbage. People are buying them up though, so good for Nintendo.

Have you ever considered that for a lot of Wii gamers this is their first console and they never had a NES/SNES/N64 or TurboGrafx 16 before? Instead of acting like a know-it-all assclown why not play Devil's Advocate every once in a while.

People have to speak with their wallets though, that's the problem. Nintendo can release rom dumps and people will still buy them. What incentive do they have to add online functionality, leader boards, etc. to their old VC games? From an profit:effort ratio, Nintendo is crushing Microsoft. The amount of work put into some of the XBLA releases is ridiculous compared to just dumping a rom, droppin some DRM on it and selling it as is. Castlevania for example, remaking the entire game from original assets? Updating textures for other games? etc. etc.

From day one, Microsoft wanted to buy their way into the console market and they've done that. Did it cost them a lot to do so? Hell yeah but the losses were more or less intentional. They set goals (10 million by end of 2006) and they met their goals and exceeded them. At the end of the day they posted revenues for their gaming/entertainment division as a whole. Look at the distribution of gaming consoles right now, Microsoft has a sizable chunk of it. To me, it looks like they're doing everything they wanted.

if you was a smart man, you would mod a xbox *softmod* or even a modchip and play every nes and snes rom imaginable. this would be cheaper than buying all the vc games by far. the only games to buy on the VC would be N64 games due to the xbox emulators can't handle it..

I think 1.5 million VC titles is definitely impressive, but the argument you are making isn't valid in this case. You're comparing 1 IP to multiple IPs at completely different pricing. Hell, even Burger King sold 2 million or their stupid games.

I agree. They probably are doing it to offload the costs for bandwidth that Nintendo is offering Wifi online multiplayer and other online shit for free without monthly fee like XBL does. I wonder how much all these bandwidth costs from Wii+DS combined.
