Nightmare on Elm St new trailer.

I'm a fan of the original and it's sequels (even the crap ones) but I always thought ANOES was one of the few films that had plenty of scope for a remake and if done correctly it could be pretty damn good, so I was looking forward to this.

I have to say though, after seeing this trailer I think it looks terrible.

Freddy looks more like the one in New Nightmare (but not scary) and it's all too slick looking with its clean-cut pretty cast (mind you the original had Johnny Depp).
They should have let it lie.

It looks like nearly every other Hollywood horror remake - i.e passable, but unmemorable.

The jumpy moments appear to be moderately effective, but predictable. The acting seems average at best, complete with the usual model like 20 somethings trying to pass as highschool kiRAB.

They've obviously attempted to morph Freddy into a more realistic character, but pay homage to Robert's version (complete with trademark laugh). The problem is that he doesn't seem as interesting, nor frightening. What doesn't help is that Rob's got the more interesting face, which worked well with the makeup.

Another issue is how much homage (or ripoff should I say:D) they pay to the source material. The Elm Street ethos are so well known that it will probably hinder this movie's effectiveness.Using too many of the same character names, too much of the same dialogue and similar scenes is a bad start.

I guess you can't expect much in the way of class from a Michael Bay production...

That gives me the creeps just thinking about it :o

Tina death scene,Freddy coming through the wall, the glove in the bath are all in this. Then there are the trademark girls singing the theme song, and even the same town name is re-used (Springwood).

I wonder if Johnny Depp's notorious death (aka the blood bed) scene is used?

IMO that's the only scene they should have redone.

Making unmemorable remakes is what Platinum Dunes do best!

Though away from PD I do think there have been some fairly decent remakes come out of Hollywood, The Ring, Dawn of the Dead and The hills have eyes are all quite good in my opinion.

Strangely enough I though the Hills Have Eyes remake was atrocious. The family in the camper van were so stupid that I ended up rooting for the nutters.

As for NOES. It looks like complete crap.

"Oh God!!!"
"No, just me"

how bloody cliched is that?

I read a test screening review the other day on Aintitcool.com (so i dont know how truthful it was...), but the reviewer pointed out that it seemed very light on the gore and only had one use of the F word, meaning that they're probably trying to get it a PG-13 rating. Like i said though, it was on Aintitcool.com, so it was probably just a ridiculous fanboy rant trying to instigate negative reviews (it seems to be the only thing that site does these days...).

And for the record i thought that 'The Hills Have Eyes' remake was really good, and much better than the original. I thought the original was rubbish. 'The Hills Have Eyes Part 2' remake WAS atrocious though.
