Night at the Museum

I saw an advance screening of this film last Thursday night, and it was pretty good. Very family friendly humour and a strong cast including Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, Dick van Dyke (legend!), Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan, and Kim Raver (Audrey Raines from 24).

It's really along the same lines as Jumanji, and has a decent story (pure fantasy of course), good lead performances, some pretty funny scenes, and great special effects.

My only criticism of the new trailer is that it gives too much away (as do all trailers these days). The original teaser trailer was much better for showing a flavour of what the film is like but without giving away important plot points.

Most of the reviews I've seen have been pretty awful, but we saw it and loved it! Although it does seem that Ricky Gervais is in a completely different film to anyone else.. Owen Wilson is excellent..

Pretty much a one star rating in all the reviews. We were really looking forward to it because this year there isn't an obvious big Christmas film as there has been in previous years with Lord Of The Rings etc, but the reviews have killed it as an event film. Now it'll be a case of waiting for it to pop up on Sky.

The question is, why is this year so poor for proper family films that don't patronise kiRAB and don't bore their parents?

Watched yesterday and really enjoyed it the reviews I'd seen where pretty poor but I think it was a good family movie that had some fantastic charaters in it and was well worth the ticket price.

Yes, the trailer shows the scene that turns out to be Gervais' first scene in the film. It's the one where he's walking across the main hall of the museum, telling children to keep their hanRAB off the exhibits.

I really want to go and see this, looks great. However im a bit worried Ben Stiller won't be as funny as he is in his previous films, please put me straight!
