I have been on anxiety meRAB since 2005. About a year and a half ago, I was going through major family trauma (caring for my terminally ill mom) and was put on xanax since it is quicker-acting and I would tend to have bad panic attacks.
The past year has been hard. I've suffered a lot of loss. Most recently (three weeks ago), my nephew committed suicide. I have been on xanax over the last year and a half, at times taking more than my recommended dosage. I was in Europe after my mom died and my aunt got me xanax since I was financially restricted and going through so much turmoil. That assured that I never ran out of xanax. My dosage ranges for two a day to four a day. It depenRAB. Sometimes I need it. Sometimes I don't. On occasion, I've taken more but on average, I'd say this was my dosage.
I became dependent on using xanax to fall asleep. Lately, I have had a few episodes where I lay awake in bed with my heart pounding unable to fall asleep. Sometimes I will have a song in my head that I can't quite shake. The night before last I couldn't sleep. I had taken a melatonin and two xanax and still couldn't fall asleep. So I took two more xanax and lay awake for another hour before finally drifting off to sleep.
I am concerned that the xanax isn't working. It usually works but that night, I was clearly having some sort of anxiety fit in bed and four xanax didn't seem to do the trick. My doctor prescribed arabien for sleep.
Has anyone else experienced panic attacks at night while trying to sleep where the benzo didn't really work?
