Nexus One: How to disable OTA notifications?

Last month I rooted my N1 using Amon RA's procedure (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612858). Now, I'm getting Google OTA update notices, but I'm not sure whether this will work with my rooted ROM. I've read some contradictory reports about success and failure during OTA with a rooted N1, and I'd rather wait to apply this OTA until it's more clear to me whether I can successfully do this on my own rooted phone.

However, I'm constantly receiving OTA update notifications. When I say "Install later", another notification comes up within 30 minutes or so. I'm wondering if there is a way to disable these annoying messages until I'm ready to actually apply this OTA update.

Thanks, but I'm still trying to learn how to do this correctly with my already-rooted N1. It might take me a few days to do the necessary investigation and make the time to actually perform this rom flashing, and in the mean time, it would be nice if I could block those notifications.

Am I out of luck?

if you're already rooted, flashing the rom is extremely easy. flashing the rom would probably be easier than trying to figure out how to block the notifications
 
i think your out of luck. even if you deleted it, you probably would get another one. there probably is a way/script to take care of it, but i dont know what it is.
 
I do have the intention. I just didn't end up having enough time to do it yet. I actually have a day job, and lately, it's also been a night and weekend job.

But now, I will make time.

By the way, can anyone point me to a cookbook for doing the flash? All Cyanogen says in his XDA article is this:

INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing CM to your Nexus?
1. Do a Nandroid backup!
2. WIPE
3. Install the ROM
4. Optionally install the Google Addon

I need instructions as to how to perform steps 2 and 3. The XDA article has over 100 pages and more than 1,900 comments, and so far, I haven't found the "cookbook" there.

yup. thats all there is too it!
put the cyanogenmod 5.0 beta on your sd card, and the google add-on zip. boot into recovery, make a nandroid backup(just in case), wipe data(factory reset), flash the cyanogenmod zip, flash the google add-on zip, then reboot. thats all, easy enought. should take you about 10-15 min.
 
step 2 and 3 are both done in recovery. if you go into it, you will see options like wipe, or flash an zip from sd card. both those files have to be on the main part of your sd card.

OK, so with Amon RA's root image, do I have to name either of these zip files to "Update.zip", or can I just use some sort of menu system to flash them by name?

Also, how do I factory reset?

Sorry for these elementary questions, but I've never done this before, and as I mentioned, I haven't had enough time to find the proper "cookbook". If there is such a document, could someone point me to it, so I don't have to keep bothering you all with these basic questions?

there really isnt a cookbook. its fairly easy and straight forward. i think you need to boot into recovery and check it out, get familiar with it. after a couple updates, you will be an expert at updating your rom. btw, all the info is here on the forums. heres a thread that someone started yesterday... http://rabroad.com/forums/f62/rooting-and-custom-roms-help-noob-questions-plea-for-comprehensive-guide-31666/
 
Not to answer for the OP, but I want to root only for wireless tethering. I could care less about flashing roms right now. I like my phone stock - for now. I probably will end up flashing roms in a few months but...

I still don't have the guts to root it though...
 
That makes a lot of sense actually. You kind of just blew my mind. So what's the minimum required change if you root the phone? Ie do you have to change recovery? Would stock roms still have the same release keys? Hmmm I'm curious now
 
isn't that what the op said was happening to him? You will receive ota notifications and if you update ota you will probably have to reroot your phone if its still possible.
