I've been on Nexium for a while, with some but not total relief. Switching to 2x/day Nexium however didn't make a difference. So now, my doctor says take Zantac along with the Nexium. It does seem to help, but I have concerns.

Anyone else doing this? Any idea if it's safe? I had concerns about high dosages of Nexium, and I don't feel much better about this.

Zantac with PPI's is fairly common. I've also been recommended to supplement Gaviscon and Pepcid as well.

I've been on PPI's twice per day for years with no apparent long-term side effects so far.

I've found that some PPI's worked better for me than others. For me, Nexium was the worst by far. You might want to try another PPI if you don't find Nexium is the one for you.

I am thinking that if you have to take both with no relief, you have a stomach ulcer of some sort. Talk to your doctor about getting a gastroscopy to confirm or a H-pyloric breath test! OR BOTH!!

I have found that the best solution is Pantoprazole!! It is a god send and I rairly need more than 40mg once a day. Some times with a drink or spicy food, I may need to take a zantac, but hardly ever.

I've pretty well run the gammut of PPIs. Prilosec, Protonix, Aciphex, and now Nexium, that I remeraber. None of them helped except Aciphex and Nexium. I'm considering going back to Aciphex...it was fairly close, but I don't think I had as many side effects.

I definitely wonder if I don't have something else going on. I do have stomach pain on occasion that isn't explained by GERD. But I've had an endoscopy, blood test for gluten, h-pylori, etc...nada.

I am getting relief, but it's taken Nexium, Zantac, and Beano, as well as supplements like probiotics, and I still have to chase it with occasional Maalox. Feel like I should be a shareholder of Glaxo by now. Mostly, I'm irritated that my doc seems to keep throwing stuff at the symptoms, without getting to the root cause.

I have been on Dexilant (Kapidex) in the morning, along with Zantac 300 mg before bedtime for a long time (before this it was Prevacid). This with the agreement of my gastroenterologist. Greg

The only long term issue is reduction in nutrient aRABorbsion, folate, B12, iron.... take Centrum every day.

Taking both together isnt dangerous, its like taking tylenol and blood pressure pills, they are totaly different drugs that work in different ways.
