Hi, I'm Joan I just turned 31, and have had back pain for years, this last year and a half it took a really bad turn for the worse. I have degenerative disc disease sever degenerative arthirtis in my back they said i have had arthritis in my back for at least 15 years. my spinal cord, from L-5 downevery disc is herniated or degenerated. I have weakness on my left side and am waiting for testing from a neurologist..conduction study or something like that. I have to use a walker, I am in horrible pain, and just started pain management, they gave me a tens unit and i have tried it and tried placing electrose in different spots etc, but it doesn't help at all. I am in constant spasm, i get sciatica on both sides, and have severe narrowing of the right foramen. one neurosureon said i have spinal atrophy, but the neuro doc i am seeing says no. had mri, don't have MS, but feeling really sad because i cannot do much at all, and if I do, it takes at least two days to recover from it. I have three girls, and two stepdaughters, and feel worthless, and wondering if there is any light at the end of the tunnel. Sorry for the rant, but I guess this is the place to talk about it. Anyone out there with similar problems, and had pain reduction? or what and how were you treated?successful or not. just curious, thanks alot. PS also have ankylosing spondylitis.

Welcome to the board! This is the place to rant-no worries there!
My goodness you have a lot going on! What have the doctors offered you for solutions aside from Pain Managment? Do they have you taking anything besides doing the TENS? You may not get everything right with the PM doc for a few months while they find what works for you and how to balance out your pain. I have three teenage daughters-I know they keep you hopping! They can be funat this age too-shopping/Starbucks/school sports/frienRAB.
I had a successful two level fusion July 2006. Unfortunatley I had scar tissue develop around the nerve root and have to make use of Pain Managment too. I finally found a balance with my PM and am able to pretty much live my life like I used to. I have to do somethings a little slower and give myself some extra time to get caught up but I am no longer missing that fun with my kiRAB, I garden, shop, clean my house and do laundry on top of working full time. I had to accept I would be taking some level of meRAB the rest of my life and this is just what my life is now. Knowing God is in control and provides me with what I need makes it easier!
Let us know how the tests come out-rant any time you need to!
Blessings,
Michelle

thanks for your message...I am going to the pain management the 24th they are going to give me a series of 3 epidural blocks. right now i am on percoset10/625 and they don't even touch it I don't get barel any relief. last night was horrible, my husband had to undress me, take me to the bathroom etc. tonight i am lying in bed typing this and I am in considerable pain. I am very tored of it that's all. Hoping and praying the epidural blocks work. something has to give here, I can't live like this forever, and I have a high pain tolerance(believeme, i have had prior surgeries etc, and all my children naturally) lol, but i just want a better quality of life. I am glad you had some relief. When i went to the neurosurgeon he said he could do nothing but I think that was in regarRAB to my right sided weakness. I am leary of surgery i rarely hear a successful story my aunt has had fusions etc and now has a permanent electrical implant, and she tried to commit suicide her back was so bad. so I hope to resolve this, but i know i have to take it one day at a time. thanks, joan
