Newbie Ovi Map question

How do I save a destination on Nuron (Ovi Map 3.03)? I can set a destination using search, it will calculate the route and show me how to get there. I want to save my destination without entering the address again. If I press "Save Place", it will just save my current location, which is not what I want.

In regard to your 2nd question, when you are not in navigation mode it will always default to north is up.

For your first question, since you search for the place already, just search for it again but not via the drive mode, just go in via search. When that location is on the screen try saving it then, that should work. You should be able to click the bar and it will pop open up a new screen (v3.06)

When I save using 3.06 I search for the place/address, once I know it is correct I press it, the map opens with the address above, then press the address and up pops a window where you can select to either save to favorite, share or navigate to.

Looks like this

Yah in my version it looks a little different as I just updated my 3.06 to the latest beta that updated yesterday but that is the idea regardless

i would just do a search, on top, there should be a drop down menu that asks whether you want to save, drive to etc. and save from there. it will popup asking you to name it.

if you're having too much problem with that, i would go into maps.ovi.com (assuming you already have an account) and just save and organize your destinations there, then when you go on your phone, you can sync it and it will all show up.

Thanks everyone. The search and save works. But I can't seem to get the 2D map to fix an orientation though. The software want to make "top" my facing direction. But the phone itself cannot really tell its orientation very well. Is there a solution at all?

not really. if you have a data plan, usually when you start moving it will approximate your orientation. it works pretty well. other than that, you need the compass which your phone doesn't have

That's what I am trying to say. It does not have a compass. I would rather have the North on a 2D map fixed to pointing up instead of what the navigation software think I am facing.

I have a Nokia N8 from Rogers. I have 500mb a month of data and my first month is unlimited yet I am unable to get satellite view on my phone 3.04 or 3.06 :( I downloaded New York and Ontario maps through the Ovi Suite and they were transferred to my phone but when I click on satellite mode i only get a "baseball field" type layout where buildings/houses should be. Also the phone always says "Connecting Rogers Internet" when I start it up even though i have connections set to offline in the settings but my network destination is set to Internet instead of Multimedia msg or WAP Service.

can someone please tell me what i am doing wrong? thank you

A good work around is to go on the Mobile.Blackberry Site, on your Bold, from there go to Applications, Staying In Touch and then Download All of the IM Applications you need straight OTA, Direct to your phone? That should get around the PC based error messege of doom about the best blackberry ever not been supported.

in order to use the satellite, you need to have it on "online." there's a prompt that tells you that the very first time you access it. it downloads it on the fly, the maps that you load onto the phone is just the normal view

hey thanks for the replies. i havent had a chance to try switching it to online yet. but how often is the satellite image being updated? I downloaded New York and Ontario maps and it was over 200mb. What was in those downloads if it is not the satellite imagery? does Ovi maps constantly upgrade their satellite imagery that I have to use a data connection with it?

thanks

i think they update it every time they update the maps. every time i look at my house after they update the maps, my cars move lol

the maps alone usually is just the maps, poi, and stuff like that.

i just checked, you can download it first, then it will stay saved in there even when you turn off the internet settings. however, you would have to download the satellite image at every zoom level if you wanted to zoom in/out. it's probably best to do this over wifi if you're serious about it.

Information for drawing every street and many buildings in every city in the relevant state/province plus the street names, points of interest, business names and contact information, 3D building textures, etc. It's remarkable how much they're able to get into that space, IMO. You can tell, of course, by the reduced quality of the offline search that data is being cut out for the sake of size.

Hi,

I got the satellite imagery to work, its amazing though that i only had my gps on for 2 minutes while on the bus and used 1.58mb of data to zoom in at my current location and go about 300m away from there to to my house. I will try to this over WIFI tonight to see if I can get satellite imagery of most of Toronto.

thanks for the help guys :)
