Newbie needs some help

Hi all! I am new to the Droid community and the Droid phone. I just got the Droid 2 on Saturday. Im still trying to figure everything out. I have read through a lot of the discussion here and am completely lost. Today I noticed that at the very top of my phone I have an orange star with a white exclamation point in it. What does this mean? If anyone can help and explain it in super simple terms, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance for all of your help. Also, could someone recommend a good place for me to checkout that explains all of the features and what all I can do with this phone? Thanks again!
 
Hi there. As far as the notification at the top of your screen, you should be able to drag down the top bar (like a window shade) and see more information.

There are many, many things you can do with your phone and it's probably a little intimidating at first. Your best bet is to make liberal use of Google and YouTube, and ask the forum if you have specific questions.

deserttopping, THANK YOU!!!!!!! I actually had no idea that you could drag down the top bar. Wow! Dont know what I would do without you! Thanks for all your help.
 
It's just some notice message. Often, a lock means some updates available. A letter means you have messgae, a star, I think is something like that.
 
yep, make google your friend. go ahead and search like "top android apps" and stuff like that; that's what i did my first time with my old g1. after you start getting the basics down, you might get curious about this mysterious thing called "root access," but we won't go there yet :P have fun with your phone, and welcome to the android community! we're glad to have you!
