I just installed Advanced Task Killer (its awesome). but what i've noticed that from time to time, many many apps end up running that i didnt launch. how is that possible?

Here is an answer that isn't what you were expecting... Don't worry about it. This isn't Windows, this is Android. Those apps are sitting idely by in memory not harming anything. If the system needs the space, it just force closes some that aren't being used. You do NOT need a task killer in Android. That is one of the beauties of it. Although I have used and I think I would recommend (I've only used it for a couple days) Startup Manager. Then you can prevent some of those apps from even starting during boot up and speed up your boot up. It seems like the Android version of msconfig so far.
