Now that's a refreshing intro! (sure beats the usual never-had-a-bike-before-but-I-know-I-can-ride-an-1198-SQUID-know-alls we get!!).
Try both. They are both worthy bikes. The 848 is a great middleweight (think Gixxer 750 performance) that carries great corner speed and is little more agile than it's bigger brother. The 1198 is more of a point-and-squirt corner launcher with tremendous reserves of power.
Both need a good deal of fine tailoring to get the best out of them.....but then again, fiddling is half the fun.
