New version of Documents To Go

Aug. 16, 2004: DataViz today released version 7 of Documents To Go Premium Edition, bringing native PowerPoint support to the most popular mobile office application for the Palm platform.

The addition of native Powerpoint file support is great news! The application interfaces also received a much needed facelift. :D

The bad news is that DataViz is charging all existing customers $29.99 USD to upgrade. I am not happy about this because I purchased version 6 only 3 months ago! I guess Agendus has started a new trend.

I need Powerpoint files for school, so I went ahead and upgraded. I haven't done much testing on it yet. But the upgrade solved some synchronizing problems I was having with Inbox To Go. The interface now looks more graphical and user friendly.

I agree that the upgrade for D2G 7 of $29.99 is annoying, but . . . .

At least 6.008 fixed a lot of things, and works FANTASTIC for me.

I never upgraded to the "Pro" Version and I'm wondering now if I had, would I still be charged AGAIN? It seems to be an "ok" price to pay at this point, as I've had the T3 9 months and the 6.002/6.005/6.008 upgrades WERE IN FACT free. I wouldn't say they're in the "ISCAMbic" vein since their stuff works and the Palm "global find" bug was fixed rather quickly and at no charge.

I'll think about whizzing off the $29 for this version . . . the charts to go would be VERY HANDY as right now I'm doing them in Excel, taking a screen shot, and trimming it to a jpeg. All that "sizing" would be unnecessary if I just had the charting ability. One question:

Do the charts "remain" after exiting, or do you have to "reconstruct" the chart(s) each time from the spreadsheet information? If they can be saved that would be terrific and probably worth the money.

Thanks for the heads up - I had no idea Ver 7.0 would be out this quick - thought they'd wait for COBALT!

I really like this new version. It seems to be very stable and efficient. I haven't used the charting features yet. However, I found this info at the web site:

SmartChart technology allows you to synchronize, edit and even create charts in Sheet To Go. Whether it?s looking at a chart created in Excel or creating a new chart on the handheld, SmartChart? technology gives a graphical representation of your important data. Our DocSync? technology maintains the integrity of your files, so when you synchronize, any changes made to your charts will be automatically applied to the desktop spreadsheet without compromsing original document formatting.

This seems to suggest that the charts will be saved. I need to test this feature.

I have tested out some of my native PowerPoint files out. Documents To Go does a marvelous job loading and displaying the files. I think this upgrade was worth it.

I agree dwinget - on my Treo it's well worth it for screen reasons. It went through and found all of the native formats that I had on my SD card with regards to pics and pdf files and placed them into the "directory" or start up screen.

The new interface for saving and deleting is a lot more intuitive for me anyway. And the new picture viewer is somewhat improved over the 6.0 version so much that I've got it loaded permanently as well.

There is both good and bad things to be said about using one company....we are somewhat at their mercy for pricing and upgrades but I think we get an enhanced stability, at least with Dataviz that is.

I give this new version of Docs to Go - two full antlers. ;)
