new unlocked razr 2 v9 can't find network

Hi folks, haven't been here in a while - sorry ! And yes , of course I need some help ! I just bought on ebay this new in box phone . When I install the sim card everything comes on including my phone number but it can't find any networks even after turning if off and on several times , taking it to an ATT store , calling Motorola ( who want me to send it in to them or try to do an exchange with ATT , neither of which I want to do ) . Also called ATT and we did a master reset and search for networks so I'm not sure what to do at this point . The girl at Motorola was useless . I'm wondering if this phone wasn't orginally designated for a european market but why would it matter if they have the same gsm network that we have ? When I turned the phone on first , before inserting the sim , it came on in portugese I think , but when I put in the sim it went to english . Well , thanks for reading and any advice. :)

You most likely have the international version of the RAZR2 V9, which has the four GSM bands plus the WCDMA 2100 MHz band. The 2100 MHz band is used along with the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz band. So if you have the phone set for 3G, it will fall back to 900/1800 when it cannot find a 3G signal. If you turn off 3G, the phone should find the GSM 850 MHz and 1900 MHz bands used in the United States by AT&T Mobility.

Mr. Parrish , you are a cell phone god - THANK YOU , THANK YOU , THANK YOU ! :) I can't believe it was that easy :ah::laugh: It would behoove these sellers on Ebay to throw in a little advice when sending these phones out to the average person . I was ready to send it back to them . I also can't believe that the idiots at Motorola couldn't tell me this . I even went to a second ATT store yesterday and they were stumped . This entire little fiasco really has me wondering about most of the people working in this industry  Well, I've learned something again on this great forum that I won't forget . Thanks for taking the time to share and help , Jim Seaton

I have nearly the same problem. i bought the unlocked motorola RAZR2-V9 rose gold phone off ebay and really like it. my problem:
it comes on fine and i can send text messages(at&t carrier) but i cannot connect to the internet. this phone is supposed to be a 3g phone but it shows 2g when turned on. in the network settings/network setup is as follows: band and type are set to automatic and speed is medium. when u click band it says: automatic(which is checked) 1900, 900/1800, Wcdma 2100. when you try to change the setting to different numbers it cannot find the network to register it on. as long as it is on automatic it will find the At&t network. the info on the end of the box that has the IMEI number list the phone as :
Motorola V9
Type:MUQ6 - 34411C11
UMTS 2100 + GSM850/900/1800/1900 + HSDPA
I checked the IMEI number on the back of the phone under the battery and using the *#06# checked the phone and the numbers match the numbers on the box.
I even took it to the local at&t store and they told me it would not work here because it is not an at&t phone. I don't know if they meant it wouldn't really work here or it wouldn't work here because i didn't buy it from at&t.
any help on this problem would be appreciated.
thanks,
nanato2
