New To this Forum Need some Guidance

First of all I just want to say what a great forum. I just found out about this and have gone through reading alot today.

I just want some guidance about wht company I should choose StarChoice or Express vu. I have read alot in each forum and am still confused as ever.

Here is my situation I just recently purchase a Samsung HD tv which we have in our Bedroom we also have our Main TV downstairs and two other tvs in the kids rooms. I want to get the HD experience with our new TV but digital with the others as they are not HD. If most of you guys started where I am which company would you go for? I am presently with MTS Digital but i dont want to shell out 600 dollars for a HD box. Am in no rush but would like to get this done by October. I am also not interested in the PVR at this time. Also is it possible to hook up two TV's to one receiver(my kids rooms), as i dont care if they have to watch the same channel at the same time, as they are usually in each others room? Any help would be appreciated.
 
The 9200 is a two room receiver, however, with all the negativity concerning ExpressVu on this forum, you may want to consider Star Choice.
 
If you're not into outlaying a bunch of money to start, then stick with Bell ExpressVu. They have rental options for receivers, and I've heard of people being able to get SD receiver rentals "thrown in" to their package for free (for 2 years, anyways)...

MTS is a great company, but their HD service sucks.

Shaw is an option, but again you are shelling out big bucks for the receiver.
 
I think the array of options from Starchoice is just as viable as Bell's.
Each has a low, medium and high end box + PVR.

As I'm a bit more familiar with *C, their PVR is a 530, their HD unit is a 505 and their SD units come in basic and deluxe as the 207 and 317 respectively.

Correct me Bev guys, but would the similar lineup be:
9200 HD PVR
6100 HD
4100 SD??

Theres a lot of questions you need to ask yourself first before deciding.
At the end of the day, both offer a vast array of SD and HD material and a selection of SD, HD and PVR units to choose.

All things being equal, think about what's important to you and what things differentiate their services.

Consider is a particular program/channel is carried by one or the other.
Consider if purchase or rental are show stoppers.
Consider how important quality of customer service is to you, should you need it.
Consider what HD may be included, what HD is charged extra.
Consider flexibility in changing programming at specific times and any penalties.
Consider the package price and bundles being offered.
Consider how important leading edge technology is.
Consider the picture quality, both HD and SD.
Will I be forced to upgrade or is my unit future proofed.
Is my provider able to offer additional services as they become available.
What are people saying about my provider. Good and Bad.

When you can answer some or most of those types of question honestly and rank them in order of importance, your choice is usually a lot easier.

If you want an HD receiver, but not a PVR, the 6100 at Express Vu is sold 300$. The other HD receiver is a PVR, the 9200 and is sold 600$. The 9200 will serve 2 TV's, one HD and 1 SD.

Yes you can hook one reciver for 2 TV's, but as you mention they will watch the same channel on both TV

You also have the rental option
9200=20$/month
6100=10$/month
4100 (SD, for kids room)=3$/month

The current promo you will get is 10$ prgramming credit for 10 months, but that would change before October

You will also get free install if you take a 2 years contract
 
There is such a difference in programming channel choice (and cost for HD service depending on your choices); that you are better off checking out programming + programming costs on their websites to start.

As for hardware costs, I recently changed from Expressvu to SC and paid $329 (with a $150 programming credit - net $179) for 1 HD + 3 SD receivers - installed.
 
I thought the HD Rental Certificate was $100....?

Also the $80 Multiswitch will NOT work for HD.

And I said don't know where you seen that we sell refurbish, cause we didn't get the info that store does sell refurbish. I was on the impression that only NESA had refurbish to replace "out of warranty" receivers or for dish care insured customers
 
The promo where client get 40$ throught postal rebate if they purchase an HD TV and rent a 9200 is for a Panasonic TV 42 inches, not a Samsung TV

That's a promo only offered to existing clients, and i'm not sure if it did expired or when it expires as the promo didn't appear in our agent information system

If you go in your Bell TV you will see it, or on the internet site
 
Also be aware that if you wanted to feed signals to 2 TV's at the same time, via coax, the 6100 cannot do this, it has no RF Output.

The basic 3100, 4100 or the SD PVR 5900 would do this perfectly as of course would the 9200.
 
That's why I said I belive in my post rather than it cost...it shows that I was not 100% sure...
 
I still question this.

I was under the impression ALL HD was $100.

It shows a $100 "activation" fee. (Rental Certificate)

Did they get it wrong.?

I never attacked you personally, other than the time I called you the "Matcho installer"...it seemed you liked the line since you took it for your signture. On the other hand you've attacked me many times on the fact that I'm French, a woman and a single mom

If I didn't know what I was talking about I think my boss would have fired me way before today. I woudn't be senior CSR. And other people on the forum would also have complained about it.

I got many private message in the past that encouraged me to continue and said that they liked my feedback on that forum.

I don't see were I was not professional... I always been courteous, polite, and gae the answer to the best of my knowledge, even correcting myself when I realised I made a mistake
 
Those are the current price...

The 9200 was 25$/month until las summer. They decided to decrease the price to
20$/month

A little correction on the previous post:The promo with Panasonic TV gives you a 400$ back on the purchase of a 42 inches Panasonic TV
 
Both the sat. companies have on-line ordering so you can configure your channel selection and box choices. That will show your up-front cost including installation as well as your monthly cost and any promo credits.

If you have one sat. box for the kids' rooms, they will have to change the channel from the room where the box is located. There may also be extra costs to do this special installation depending on how your house is currently wired.

The MTS HD box is not $600. It is $348 + $99 installation. However, the MTS HD lineup isn't as good as the sat. companies. It depends whether it will meet your needs.

Since this is in the Expressvu forum, here is a possible configuration. This will save you about $50 instead of buying 2 new 4100s.
2 TV Solution (2 refurb standard receivers and dish) $149.00
6100 for HD $299.00
EXVU Multi-Satellite 4x4 switch $149.95
Installation for 2nd & 3rd box (Dish and 1st box free with 2 year contract) $100
Total $697.95

Here would be the cost with a 2 years:2X4100=198$
1X6100=299$
- 10X10$ credit=100$
Includes free installation and all switches
This is with all brand new receivers, I don't know where you've seen that we sell refurbish.

And here would be his cost for 1 year:2X4100=198$
1X6100=299$
Installation:199$
No programming credits offered. I don't belive that client would have to pay for the switch but I will double check on that.

Of course the 2 years deal is a better option!

Your answers within this forum are almost never clear and concise, they almost always leave room for doubt, this thread is a perfect example.

When I prove you WRONG, you attack me personally, how low can you get, not very professional for a Level 2 CSR.

I had the opportunity to mix with the Express Vu Managers this morning where on more than one occasion I was asked for my input into the issues that pertain to our installations and I had to reply that internal lack of knowledge ranks as our number 1 problem.

So once again, is the Rental Certificate $100 for a 6100 or is the Bell website wrong as well as me.?????
