ok i was told to repost in the discussion section.

ok iv have ben riding for about amonth now on a 99 CBR F4 that belongs to my friend. i was looking at geting a 08 ducati 1098S as my first bike. i havent really goten much help from any one about this bike. all i have heard ducatis are crap and spends more time n the shop then they do on the road. can some one plzs help me?
 
Jealousy. Do it up bud! They are the best looking bikes on the road, and every time you turn your head you see a Jap bike. Guys who say Ducs are crap are either misinformed or they're simply jealous/ignorant, truly.

My first bike was a Buell XB12R, and I literally didn't ride it for 2 months before the 1098 came out and I said fuck this I'm getting one of those.

Welcome to the forum. You have an excellent question. It has been asked many times before.

There is a big different in power between your current ride and a 1098s. A 1098s for a first bike is a lot of bike. Majority of the riders drop their first bikes. And to drop a 1098s will be very expensive, because it's a Ducati with a lot power.

Your first maintenance will be a 600 miles service. It's basically, an oil change and check for anything that's loose. It can run anywhere from $150 to $300 depends on your which dealer you go to for your service. Once you get the final price of your new bike, ask for a free 600 miles service.

Next is your 6000 miles service. This is very important. It's about $900 to $1,000 depends on your dealer.

And so on....

Other than that it's regular wear and tear. Of course, you have the 2 years unlimited miles warranty. So, you're pretty much protected.
 
wow 1098s 1st bike? Hell, I'm jealous. I think smart money would be the standard 1098, but hell if you have the cash go for it.

I don't know if you'll appreciate, or have the ability to notice and feel the differences between the 1098 and 'standard' street bikes.

But hell, if you like riding, have the cash (and insurance) Go for it!

As long as you're in good physical shape, and you're not a speed freak...you may survive out there

true prices vary a bit according to what dealer. However, the 1st sked after 600 (oil change, chain adjustment) should be 7,500 and then every 7,500 after that, with an oil change in b/w the services.

In Denver where I bought mine that had a service plan ($1400) that covers me for 3yrs of service, very nice program which I will soak for every penny (mile) I can. However, if it were out of pocket it would be

600mile = $200
mid-way oil change = $120
7,500 = $688 then every other 7,500
mid-way oil change = $120
15,000 = $866 then every other one.

So as long as I get 15k on my bike in 3 yrs I've saved myself a lot, even with that $1400 being financed. On my last bike, 05' Hayabusa I logged 24k miles in less than 18months, safe to say I like to ride


Some will say a 1098 is too much bike for a first. I disagree. If you've ridden a bit, and understand the responsibility of your actions on a bike then I'm sure the 1098 would be a wonderful first (yes I'd be jealous too, my first was a 78' Suzuki 90cc, then throw in another 12bikes before I finally said fuck it and bought the Ducati I always wanted). I've known several people that started out and still riding a Hayabusa, talk about overkill for a "beginner" Ducati's are picky on their maintenance and to get the top resale you will want to save all receipts and paperwork. You know you want it. It's a beautiful and powerful bike. Maint. fee is kind of high but not as high as it used to be 10 years ago. Just buy it, ride it and watch everyone looking at you with pure envy.
Get the 1098s in black !!!!!
