New to fish, need help, can you help?

Ok I am 20 and just got my first fish four days ago. He has been swiming in a fish bowl and the bowl is a 1 gallon... so I know he isnt happy so I just went out and bought a 3 gallon aquarium kit. It has a filter, light, and decorations... Is the filter going to hurt my fish? Can my fish get sucked in? I have a goldfish, i think... it is the most expensive one walmart had. do i leave my filter on 24/7? Please help, I dont want to hurt my fish

the tube to the filter from the tank should have a plastic piece kind of like a screen n yes you leave it on 24/7. it shouldnt hurt your fish actually it should make him very happy his water will be cleaner and have more oxygen in it
 
no he will be fine but put the fish in the tank in the previous bowl so he gets used to his enviornment. when its about 3-4 days u can take him out of the bowl and put him in the real container alone.
 
You don't want to put your fish into shock. It would be best to gradually introduce him to the new water temperature. Let the new filled tank sit for a few days then put your fish in a bag and leave it in the new tank for a few hours then let it go. Stress can kill your fish I've seen it first hand! The filter won't kill your fish it just keeps your tank clean. The filter will not suck your fish in. Yes you should leave your filter on all the time so air will be in the water.

The fish gives off waste constantly, it's not on a schedule, so the filter needs to stay on all the time. Water quality needs to be maintained 24/7.

You bought one of the largest and filthiest fish pet stores have to offer. A comet goldfish can reach up to a foot in length and has the potential to live 12-20 years.

If you have not yet used the three gallon kit, return it. It's no good for a goldfish, and a waste of your money, which you'll need if you decide to keep him.

Goldfish are constantly giving off waste which becomes ammonia and nitrates. Ammonia in any amount is lethal for fish, and the nitrates inhibit growth.
For a happy, healthy goldfish you'll need to buy at least a ten gallon tank for now, have a very efficient filter, and perform weekly water changes.
 
The fish won't get hurt in the filter. Just make sure you clean the filter once a week.
 
No, it's a dead goldfish.

Comet goldfish get a foot long, but when in a tank that small, their growth gets stunted. This leads to a long, painful, early death. Basically, their organs keep growing to the size of a full grown comet, but their outsides and skeletons don't. Besides that, goldfish are one of the dirtiest fish you can buy. They give off WAY too much waste for a small tank. If you don't want to hurt your fish, return that one, get a betta, or a few guppies.
 
be very prepared because your little goldfish will turn into a big goldfish in time will need a larger tank soon.

one,leave your filter on the time,for any fish,also when you got the fish u should have put the bag in the tank so the fish would have gotten use to the water level.i guess u can use that for further refrence
 
No the filter won't hurt your fishy. No your fishy can't be sucked in. Yes leave the filter on all the time, make sure you do water about a couple times a month.....I HIGHLY recommend that you go buy a book or find a good website on fish keeping.
 
a come goldfish needs a 50 gallon minimum with a filter rated for 100 gallons

your fish will be fine and leave it on 24/7
 
is the holes of the sucky thing big enough??

u have nothing 2 worry about
ur just over thinking about this
he just needs 2 get settled into his environment
but maybe u should get a couple more fish 2 keep him happy
but dont mix goldfish with tropicals (.......i learned that the hard way and only 2 golfish survied....... everthing else died)

oh and if i were u i would trust getting good fish from walmart
ive heard of them dying in like the next day
and one time i went there and i saw a dead fish and the others were eating it
and when we went back there in like an hour lateer the dead fish was gone

but maybe ur walmart have better fish
 
when u change it to different water, keep the water with it. dont drainit. my fish died like that and no ur fish wont get sucked into it. would u get sucked into a washing machine? no. i dont think so!
