I have a lot of health issues going on but will concentrate just on the anxiety symptoms.

In the past few years I have had issues of feeling extremely anxious; can't sit down, can't lay down, couldn't hold still for more than literally a couple seconRAB, heart feels like it is pounding out of my chest. In connection with those episodes my blood pressure would go through the roof as well and I would end up in the ER.

A couple nights ago I had another one, the worst one yet by far. I am on a lot of pain medicine for a back injury but it was not thought that medication had anything to do with this. At the ER, the doctor finally resorted to giving me a huge injection of Haldol as well as something for my blood pressure being so high which by the way, I am on a daily dose for my blood pressure.

Symptoms; feel like my heart is racing, extreme night sweats, having a lot of trouble sleeping, can't get to sleep without taking something to help me sleep, it is like I have the screaming meammies and the heebie-jeebies for lack of a better description.

It was so horrible the other night, I was wishing someone would just kill me. I am still feeling it but not as bad. I am seeing my pain doctor tomorrow and hoping and praying he can do something to help me.

Fifteen years back when my dad passed away, I broke out in hives and remained broken out for a total of 5 days. They kept testing me for this and trying that and I kept telling them it was my nerves so they finally just kept me knocked out until my system calmed down and the hives disappeared. I am prone to break out in hives when stressed.

I was reading of other people taking Prozac which I am on for depression; 80 mgs twice daily but it does NOTHING for the anxiety symptoms.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had a chance to talk to your doctor more specifically about the anxiety, not just talking about it as a side issue from the other health issues you briefly described? Perhaps Prozac doesn't work as well for your anxiety as it would for some people. I only take 20mg once a day and it does WONDERS for my anxiety, so it just may not be the right match for you. If you feel that a medication would be best, perhaps a doctor can help you pick out a different choice that may work better for you. Do you find that you have a lot of mental symptoms too, or mostly physical symptoms? My Prozac mostly helps my mental anxiety of worrying so much and obsessive thinking. Perhaps for more physical symptoms (like the night sweats, shaking, etc) another med would be more effective.

I have chronic pain and I get that same heart-pounding restlessness. My doctor gave me Xanax, and while it doesn't help the pain it is a big help with the anxiety and that I could not sit still for two minutes, which made all my pain worse not being able to relax.

I have a lot of real concerns about things; my health problems, husband's work, my mom's failing health and advancing age, money, and on and on and on so it is not like I am worrying over some willie-nillie something that might happen once ever fifth blue moon.

I have to see my pain doctor tomorrow to have some prescriptions filled; two of my scripts have to be picked up in person because of drug classification and because it is time to be seen by him again; have to see him every 3-4 months to remain in good standing.

I really don't think it is my pain medicine causing this; I am on the exact same thing I have been on for almost 3 years.

I just want to find out what this is and find something that is going to help me. I can't stand this feeling, I don't want to think about trying to live with this indefinitely with no end in sight.

Thanks to those who have responded to my initial post.

Talked to my pain doctor and he said NO WAY would he give me anything for the anxiety. Being on Fentanyl which is 80 times stronger than Morphine, Soma muscle relaxer, and he told me specifically if something like Xanax or some other major med for the anxiety, he said I would end up doing a Michale Jackson..........

My system has calmed down some and doing some better but it looks like I am going to have to deal with this. My doctor told me to take Benadryl for the anxiety, it wouldn't suppress my breathing. He then told me he would not be able to live with himself if he prescribed something and then I ended up dying.
