I started experiencing reflux symptoms about 2 months ago. Burning, feeling of food in my chest, lump in throat feeling...Went to my general dr with the symptoms and he recommended trying Prilosec. It has helped tremendously, but I occasionally get break through symptoms of burning and pain in my sternum, and occasional upper back pain - now I have a new symptom. For the past few days, I have these feelings of having to burp, but nothing comes out. I am not having a problem burping, like after I eat or drink, but in between, its a fullness feeling like I need to burp to relieve it, but there is no air there to burp up, if that makes sense. It also makes me feel nauseous. I feel like I have to force a burp up, and when I do that, I get the sensation of food coming up and now I have that feeling in my chest again like food is stuck behind my breastbone. I am just feeling like this is never going to end, since I have been taking Prilosec for 2 months straight. Is this another symptom of reflux? I cannot take this anymore. It is starting to consume my life. I made an appt with a gastroenterologist for tomorrow. I am nervous about it and not sure what to expect. Can anyone help with advice for my appt and for this new symptoms?

I have had similar problems exactly as you decribe with the burping feeling, and I get different symptoms at different times. PPIs never worked for me. Pepic AC seemed to be the only medication that made me feel better, and supplementing with Pepto Max whenever I get that burning sensation up in my chest. I saw my doc again about all this and we are now thinking I may have an ulcer, because the strange thing is that eating always makes me feel better so he says the food acts like a buffer between the acid and the ulcer spot, so that is something to think about. Also, I have read that sometimes GERD symptoms are a result of LOW stomach acid, so be sure to inquire about that. Can you try drinking Apple Cider Vinegar, which seems to work wonders for a lot of people with these symptoms, I tried it but not consistently so not sure I can say it works yet. I am a little worried about putting too many different things in my system right now. Seeing a gastro doc next week and getting scoped, so that should shed some light on my issues finally. Been dealing with it for 8 months, debilitating at times.

I get a very similar feeling. I find eating very slowly and for some reason laying on my left side while I eat seems to help. Also I try not to swallow any air as it seems to make things worse. Right now none of my PPIs are working anymore so don't know what else to do.

Just an update

I had my upper endoscopy yesterday. The problem is an ulcer. No signs of reflux or irritation. They also removed 1 polyp.

It is nice to have an answer. My doc said to continue taking the OTC Prilosec. The ulcer is healing, so he said taking the Prilosec is working to heal it. I have to follow up with him in a week, so I will ask more as far as how long I have to continue taking the meRAB.
