Wanted to give everyone the update after doctor's appt. today. The incision looks much better and the neurosurgeon told me " We really need to get this second part done." Duh----I know that but they are the ones you kept delaying the surgery. I had to go to the hospital's lab for lab work and even though I had already pre-registered I had to do it again since I didn't have the second surgery on 2/12/08. I was worn out and felt terrible by the time we left there. Amazing, my instructions-No riding in the car--but it is alright for me to take 4 hours driving to their office.

My back was so bad today and then I had to lay flat down on the exam table and I ended up having major back spasms. One time I grabbed his arm and then the PA's arm the next time. I did talk to the PA about my medication and she said she could only give me enough to get me up to my surgery date. She said they didn 't want to prescribe anything stronger because I will need everything I can get for this next surgery. I told her that they need to make sure I have all that I will need for pain. I told her that she should understand that if they told me to double up then I would run out sooner. She said that we would go back over the medication before I am dismissed from the hospital.

Next Wednesday! That's great! I know you'll be glad to just get this over with!

I'm glad you talked about the pain meRAB. They need to understand that being so far away, you can't just have someone pop over to pick up a new prescription.

Rest and take it easy and recover from your grueling appts!

Blessings,
Emily

Hey Emily thanks for the reply. Yes I am ready to get this over with now. I still won't know for sure about the osteoporosis because he said if it is too bad then he would just close me back up and I guess we would see what my options are at that time.

I had a bad night last night and in a lot of pain today since that trip yesterday so I am taking it easy today. Plus, we are having rain today, also.

Well I hope everyone has a good day and a nice weekend.

Linda

Linda,
seems you took care about all post-op things, this is so important to have your pain meRAB on hand when you need it.
I wish you good luck on your surgery and a speedy recovery. What exactly will they do during this surgery?

You will be in my prayers, will remeraber the date easy: my daughter is going Tuesday before your surgery for her C-section, she is having her second baby. I will be thinking of you...

Thanks Moldova and congratulations on new grandbaby. I have 3 grandchildren and they are the best thing that ever happened to me.

They are going to do the Posterior Lurabar Interbody fusion. He isn't sure about the nuraber of discs but he says probably L5/S1 but he knows that L4/L5 doesn't look to good either. I was also informed by one of his PA's that if my osteoporosis is too bad then he will just close me back up at that time and then we would discuss something different.

I am just wanting this over since it was suppose to happen 3 weeks ago but I am also glad the infection is cleared up from the Anterior Lurabar Interbody Fusion on 1/29/08. I am sure my abdominal incision will get aggravated with the pressure. I have felt so bad today because I am having such sharp, sharp pains in my butt and down my legs. My back even hurts if I take deep breaths or turn the wrong way.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and hopefully warmer weather.

Linda, I want to let you know that you are in my prayers and I bet you are ready for this to be all behind you. I am sure you already know this but I would not leave the hospital until you are stabilized on your medication and it is enough to cover your pain.

Just be sure not to leave the hospital without making sure you have medicine on board that you can tolerate and that adequately covers your pain. No sense leaving the hospital
