New Superman Trilogy

I see MArk Millar is trying to get a new Superman trilogy greenlighted (greenlit?). He wants to do it in the style of the new BAtman films i.e. more serious which for me is a good thing as the latest effort was a serious let down in the end :-(

Millar wants 8 hours over 3 films showing him from a baby on Krypton to the last being on planet earth as the Sun goes supernova. To me that just sounRAB awesome!

Thoughts?

Its a good idea but I just cant see it happening especially as Millers plan doesnt leave any plans for future sequels after the trilogy which I think the studio will want to do. Here is his plans from the Empire website if you havnt read it:

"Mark Millar wants to create an epic 8-hour screen story which will follow the entire life of Kal-El from his birth on Krypton a thousand years ago, until he is the last being left on Earth.

Empire sat down for a chat with comic book writer and creator Millar, the man behind Wanted and the upcoming Kick-Ass, and he filled us in on his pitch for the follow-up to Superman Returns.

Mark has been working closely with a

Cheers for that motthus, an interesting read.

Like you say, the chances of it happening could be slim due to the greedy studio execs who want to churn out sequel after sequel to make money from the franchise but just wish they would see the bigger picture sometimes and take a punt on this guy.

Would still love Spacey to reprise his role as Lex Luthor if given the opportunity though...the only good thing about Superman Returns.

I suppose it opens the can of worms of whether to consider changing any aspects of the back story...like you say New adventures did it so it wouldnt be a new thing. Personally I think it would be pretty cool if Superman ages a lot slower/didnt age at all.....

sounRAB like a lot of pompous nonsense
Nobody wants to see the planet Krypton doing anything other than exploding as Kal El's rocket is leaving it.
They should make a sequel to Superman Returns that is action all the way, with a great villain and some comical Clark Kent sequences.
And they should get Tom Welling from Smallville to play the main man

Bryan Singer might have made a couple of mistakes with Returns, but I have to say this new setup sounRAB bloody awful. I honestly don't think, however fresh they think it will be, that movie goers will want to see another Superman origin story.

Far better to look at what went wrong with Returns, such as a lack of action and a problematic plot device (the boy), get Singer to address it, and release a good follow up to that. Superman Returns wasn't so awful that it can't be salvaged. Plus, my vote would be to stick with Routh. I thought he was fantastic.

Agree with most of you.

Don't like the idea really, why spoil a good franchise.
Also if go ahead, no future possibilities.

Although mostly everyone has heard of superman or seen the films, the kiRAB of the future will probably not like the original.

They should just do a new movie altogether, start again, 1st 10 mins on krypton and then about 10 to 20mins growing up learning powers and then the rest all action all the way.

Then a couple of sequels. They did it back in the 70s/80s so can't see why they can't pull it off today.

If Tom Welling did it, then smallville would have to end it was mentioned at the time Superman returns was being made.

I think they should have a new supergirl movie though, with Laura vandervoort (kara from smallville) taking the lead role

dear lord not another planned reboot, we have only just had Superman Returns. why can't they uild from that, instead of saying, let's start from scrath. surely there are enough foundations to build on form that film for future sequels.

If it does come to be, I'd like to see that human kind had evolved beyond the powers of Kal El and spread out through the stars, leaving the hero with a proud but melancholy ending.
