Hi,

I want to try out Bell Expressvu service and was given some used equipment, 20" dish, 3100 receiver.

Is it possible to set up an account with them without a term or commitments using my own equipment?

Thanks!

Yes if the ownership of the receiver has been transfered to your name. I believe you might have to pay a $35-50 dollar account activation fee though.

Correction... It's not an activation charge, but a transfer charge!

Unfortunatly if you set your account with an "old" receiver you are not eligible for any new clients promo

If you add another receiver (purchased or rented) you will then be eligible for the new clients promo. In that case you would have to sign a 1 or 2 years contract. With the 1 year you have to pay the install, or in the case of the purchase you can choose to install it yourself. In the case of the rental it needs to be installed by an EV tech. If you sign a 2 years contract you get free install. With that second receiver you will get a dish, so you can sell the one you have or keep it in case piece on the other one breaks.

I believe expressvu has a new account activation fee as well. $49.99 or something like that, I know they did 1-2 years ago.

The charge you refer to is the rental certificate...

That charge only applies to rental client...
The client pays 50$ + tax for a SD receiver or 100$ + tax for a HD receiver
On the bill following the activation the charge gets credited back.

Client that purchase their equipement don't have to pay that 50$-100$

No I am not reffering to a rental certificate, I'm refering to a fee for the activation of a new account. I still have a copy of the invoice saying New activation fee $49.99, and I never bought a rental certificate. And I never recived a credit for it. This was three+ years ago.
Maybe it no longer exists.

My account was activated approximatly 5 years ago and I didn't had to pay an "activation charge"

I worked at EV from April 2006 to September 2007 and there was no "activation charge"

So, what's your point?? They may be one and the same.

Bell refer's to a activiation fee on their website, try googling expressvu activation fee, see and the results you get.

Uner the Bouns credits section it says:

http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpTv_Aio_Buy.page?activeWorkflow=aioPackage&activeModule=television&wlcs_catalog_item_sku=AIO_SD_EssentialsEn

So I guess you were incorrect ExAEV.

Read the comments I previously made:

That 50$ is again, the all in one rental certificate that some agents will call activation charge. That charge only applies to RENTAL CLIENTS!!!
I don't see where I was incorrect, this is what I was saying since the beggening...

I just looked at the page you are sending us and it clearly says to pay 50$, then activation credit 50$

Now look at http://www.bell.ca/shopping/television.portal?_nfpb=true&_windowLabel=Content_7&Content_7_actionOverride=%252Fportlets%252Fpersonal%252Ftelevision%252Fbuying%252FprocessWorkflow&_pageLabel=PrsShpTv_Buy&Content_7%7BactionForm.activeModule%7D=television&Content_7%7BactionForm.activeModuleInstanceId%7D=1&Content_7%7BactionForm.activeStep%7D=equipment&Content_7%7BactionForm.activeWorkflow%7D=tvSystem&Content_7%7BactionForm.previousStep%7D=&Content_7%7BactionForm.stepsHistory%7D=equipment&Content_7%7BactionForm.workflowLevel%7D=1&Content_7%7BactionForm.workflowSessionId%7D=172&Content_7%7BactionForm.receiverChanged%7D=true&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B0%5D%5B1%5D%7DOldValue=true&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B0%5D%5B1%5D%7D=1&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B1%5D%5B1%5D%7DOldValue=true&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B1%5D%5B1%5D%7D=0&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B2%5D%5B1%5D%7DOldValue=true&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B2%5D%5B1%5D%7D=0&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B3%5D%5B1%5D%7DOldValue=true&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.additionalReceivers%5B3%5D%5B1%5D%7D=0&additionalReceiversCount=4&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.hasNimiq2%7DOldValue=true&Content_7wlw-select_key%3A%7BactionForm.hasNimiq2%7D=false it's the page for purchase...do you see anywhere that it talks about a 50$ activation charge? NO

As you can tell Bell does train their reps well in gobbly gook. It looks like Bell would like you to leave the used receivers for pirates, new subs are usually better off with new hardware and install.

Unless he really doesn't want to have a contract...

When you sign in with receiver that have been tranferred from a client or ex client you are on a monthly term (35$ transfer charge/no new client's discount)

When you sign in with new receiver you have to be on a contract...
1 year contract (you pay the install/no new client's discount)
2 years contract (free install/new client's promo)

It really depends on what aspect (save money/contract issue) is more important to him...

Meh, $35 isnt a bad price to pay to not be tied into something you might not like. And if you do like it, you can rent or purchase a receiver to get the new client promos.

Correct EX AEV?

Only new customers get new customer deals. Two year contract with install, new receiver and dish will cost $25 (Order online). If you just want to see what it looks like check a friends. They only difference between companies (satellite or cable) are the channel guides.

For $35 you install yourself or pay additional $100 install

No... If the account is already opened you are no longer considered a new client... To be considered so you would have to close the acount (30 days notice applies there) for 6 months, then you will be considered new client. You could probably close the account and re-sing using your wife, husband, roomate name's and it would probably work, only trying will tell

The choice to make is to pay a 35$ transfer charge and get no discount OR to sign a 2 years contract, buy or rent new equipement and get a new client's deal

If you take a 2 years contract they will install everything FREE OF CHARGE (up to 4 receivers) and you will get A 25$ CREDIT if you placed you order on line

The 35$ has nothing to do with installation charges... The 35$ charge is a charge EV charges the client when he opens a new account with receivers that belongs to existing/ex client...
The original installation is 100$, with an additionnal 50$/receiver

In the present case the account will be created with the existing receiver, and if client needs the install of the dish it would be considered a service call at 75$ + 50$ per extra receiver

Hold it there buddy, the channel guide is not the only difference between cable and satellite companies.. wow dude I had shaw for 6month,, it was absolute crap for HD and SD for that matter.. I even had the top of line receiver they had to offer at the time.. POS IMHO...
