New Style of DVD Case?

i work for asda on the music and video.. The red tag is there so you cant open the case... But if you have a magnet.. it should be easy to get out ;)
 
I work for Asda on checkouts/customer services and I can tell you that the checkout staff is fully trained on security. The checkout operator was cleary neglecting her job in this case. THE ALARM CAN NOT BE DE-ACTIVATED and can only be removed using a special magnet on checkouts (i tried my own magnet and did not work - maybe might work for you). If the alarm made no beeping noise on the checkouts it means the checkout supervisor did not turn on the alarm system on checkouts using the alarm key. Each checkout has a seperate alarm system lock undernath the checkouts. The best thing to do if this happenes to you is to take the product back to store with reciept. Also the home and leisure department is utterly rubbish in the store I work so this might also be the case in your store. As for alarm sounding through the door it is NOTHING TO BE EMBARSSED ABOUT.
 
Since i work at Asda on the home entertainment i can tell you that.

The Tag.. That fits into the case.. Is taken out using a magnet (i wasnt sure if you could use other magnets) and it also has a thing that alerts at the front of the shop if not taken out.. But the checkout could of scanned it to deactivate it but not removed the tag. Theres a magnet reactivator at the back of the counter that we use to re-activate these tags to use them again.... Ive done it before in forgetting to take the tag off.. So she/he probs just forgot etc..

I found this thread after buying a DVD for my wife today from Asda. She went to put it on and realised it had a red security tag that neither of us had seen before. 10mins of pointless poking at it with a knife etc I decided to Google it and of course ended up here.

It seems others were able to remove the tag fairly easy but nobody said how exactly. I couldn't be arsed going back to the store tomorrow so I decided to break the box open (firstly cutting out the cover) with brute force and from there the DVD came out really easily. Just by pulling the cover apart and ripping it slightly either side of the tab it was not much of a security tab. Something I'll watch out for in the future and something which makes me very pissed off with Asda about!

About two months ago I bought 'Night at the museum' for seven pounRAB at my local Tesco and put it aside waiting for a boring tv night to watch it. Tonight is that night and I've discovered the red tag which I Googled and came to this. I don't know if Tesco have the equipment to remove these tags as I havnt seen them before and only Asda is mentioned in this topic. Any way here is a warning to look out for these tags and ask the checkout operator to remove them!
 
i worked at music zone the other year and they 'red tag' all their dvd's (minus the really cheap ones), the tags are highly annoying as sometimes even the magnet machine things you insert the dvd's into to remove the tags dont work so you have to try pry the case open usually resulting in either a broken case or dvd!

it's just a way to deter shoplifters, because if they steal a dvd with them the chances of them getting them open without breaking it is quite slim..

so just make sure they ve been taken out when you purchase any dvd's. :-)
 
It is an anti-theft device and a real PITA when the shop assistant forgets to remove it. If you go back to the store where you bought it they will remove it (take your reciept).
 
I always check DVD and CD discs while still in the store to:-

1) Make sure any security devices have been removed;

2) Make sure that I have all the discs and all the right discs;

3) Make sure that there is no obvious visible damage to the playing surface of the disc - even more important when renting - some people seem to use Brillo paRAB to try and clean them :rolleyes:
