New Startrek Trailers!!! HD:) looks good!

I like Trek (but I'm not a Trekkie) and JJ's work (apart from Clovefield) and this looks amazing.
It appears Terminator Salvation has some serious competition in the summer sci fi blockbuster stakes.

Looks good although in nit-picking mode, Chris Pine looks a bit too babyface compared to William Shatner's Kirk. Zachary Quinto as Spock seems rather young looking too. Film kinda feels like Star Trek - The Teenage Years. :D I know it's about the beginning of Star Trek so all the cast have to look young but a few mature faces lend a bit more credibility to the proceedings. Compared to Shatner, Pine looks like he should be working one of the controls or one of the crew beamed down to a planet whom gets eaten by some horrible monster, not the actual captain of the Enterprise!

I think Shatner and Nimoy will always be the definitive Kirk and Spock.

I am more than happy to now tread this path, shatner and nimoy will always be the original, the template the entire series / films were always based on, but surely you must agree that the franchise has become stale and had run its course as far as stories had been written, this film gives us a new lease of life a new direction to go, and from the look of it, a bang upto date revision of the series.

Well yes, I guess so. I wasn't a fan of nemesis to be honest. It was all about action rather than story and I thought it was all the poorer for it.

That would be my worry about this. The dazzling look and effects will get stale quickly if there is no substance beyond that.
My hope is that Peggs Scotty will pay some homage to the originals in some way. And that they can recreate the chemistry between the other characters right away. That was always the magic of trek for me. Otherwise it will just be another scifi romp with special effects.

As for stories, there are only a handful of stories in scifi so it won't really be anything new I guess. And let's be honest, Star Trek has done and done all of the scifi stories there are. In fact won't it be a rehash of a TOS episode anyway?

I'm not a trekkie although I have seen Star Trek films and some TV shows through the years.

Star Trek's HUGE downfall to me was that it was overtaken by fanboys, geeks and die hard trekkies. The show became more of a boring social lesson and technology fest rather than excitement and adventure- what I would call the Star Trek 'Label'.

It lost its general appeal which is very hard to get back. When you mention Star Trek - you instantly think of geekdom and trekkies.

To me this film looks like an excellent revamp- to make it cool again to people of all ages. The big test will be if it appeals to anyone whos heard of the show/films but never seen them due to the Star Trek 'label'

This is what they're aiming for, the widespread appeal, and for that they had to return to Kirk and Spock, characters that EVERYONE in the world knows, even if they've never seen an episode. It STILL ties in with current Trek mythology though. It's a sequel to Nemesis as much as it is a reboot/reimagining of classic Trek.

Nero, the Romulan villain in the film, is from the Picard/Data/Worf etc. Next Generation time period. There's even a chance Picard and Data may appear in it, along with, of course, Leonard Nimoy's ancient Spock, who's also from that time. So long-time Trekkers shouldn't be too worried. Everyone's being catered for here.
