New Star Trek Movie!

I'm going to commit heresy here but I don't care.

I saw the new Star Trek movie recently & it was (IMHO) total tripe.

Yes I know it's a reimagining & therefore the continuity was not canon etc.

Kirk is just too arrogant to be taken seriously!

And to go from cadet ( non graduated & still had the kobi oshi maru incident to resolve) to star ship captain (even allowing for a field promotion!) is just not credible.

Spock & Uhura? Don't think so!

The destruction of Vulcan?

So many continuity holes you could fly a fleet of star ships through!

It was tripe.

It was not star trek! Buit a pretendy film claiming to be

As an entertaining movie it was fine but that is all - it was not star trek & did not do justice to what it claimed to be.

Just my Humble Opinion :D

Calm down dear, it's only a commercial (venture)

Basically this film was a 'reboot'. An attempt to make Star Trek 'sexy' for a whole new audience. There were loaRAB of continuity and plot holes but heh! That's Star Trek for you.

I suggest, sit back, enjoy all the explosions and don't think of anything that went before. Boldy Go towarRAB new storylines etc :)

It's taken direct from the TV series

The network however put a stop to it in the early days because they didn't want an interracial relationship on the TV

Hi Darth I am aware of that & that fact & that they later used the first interracial kiss between Kirk & Uhura instead.

In any event It still didn't work for in the movie.

Life long Trek fan and have to say I personally loved the reimaging, and dont see how people can complain about plotholes and continuity in a sci-fi film. Do you seriously think you know all about the universe and what happens in it?

My brother basically dragged me to this movie because I hate Star Trek. I hate the movies and I hate the show.

Yet, I came out with the biggest smile on my face. :)

It was awesome!

OP. Stubborn? Much?

Sheesh. A reboot, and i'll add a very well done one at that, to inject some life into a cold, up it's own ar*e, failing franchise?

It more than did what was asked of it.

Be thankful the beloved Trek will now continue.

Total tripe?...Really?.......Really?

I have to say i wasn't a Star trek fan before - i would confuse Star Trek and Star Wars together but i have to say i really enjoyed this movie and i got the original series on dvd and am making time to enjoy the original series.

Surely, if it converts non-Trek fans then it has done its job. I know as a HP fan - how pedantic fans can get over a movie not being done right but at least Trek did something a HP movie couldn't do and make a viewer want to read/watch the originals.

How do you argue canon/not canon on something that was new (a clearly advertised alternate reality)? Surely, it is what it is.

Regardless of canonicity(made up word?) or not I thought it was fairly average. Precious little story masked by lots of running about and blurry action. Some of the voices/characters were spot on though. And there wasn't enough Scotty.

I liked the idea of a reboot but in the end I wasn't impressed :( I liked most of the new actors, they fit the roles very well, but the story (what little there was of it) was totally unengaging and the villain was bland.

Insurrection is worse.

Some people liked others didnt, get over it OP. Although by the tone of your posts I get the feeling youre attention seeking more than anything else.

Either that or you want to start yet more "it was good/it was crap" arguments, honestly, that was SO early summer. Us geeks are now arguing over which is better Dollhouse or True Blood (oh and Fringe). Keep up.
