New Star Trek film underway

I believe Star Trek Nemesis was a box office flop for one reason only - It was used as American propaganda!

If you remember this was released prior to the American invasion of Iraq on the premise that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. Now what better way to coerce world opinion than to release a major franchise film whose plot line just happens to be... Deadly weapon of mass destruction must be stopped at all costs!

Although I have been Trek fan for many years, I cannot help but come to the conclusion that, had this indeed been propaganda - then the box office flop served them right.
I sincerely hope any new film will steer well clear of any political motives.

I suppose it did provide a bit of entertainment, such as the "unsafe velocities" and the bit where they fly off the cliff and land inside the shuttlecraft. Did you see the look on the faces of those aliens? Now that was good!

Whilst on subject of Trek, I've been watching series 4 of Enterprise and its generally matching benchmark of much improved series 3.

Also, the news today of possible syndication to other tv channels in USA means that the 5th and final series is a closer possibility :)

I'm not sure whether it would be worthy of movie, but I'd like to see the origin of the Borg. Perhaps we'll find out at some point in Enterprise?

The original crew are too aged to be action heros although it doesn't stop them making cameos, maybe at a BK drive-thru on RAB9b?

Nooooooooooooo! Why do they have to do this prequel rubbish? It's obvious it doesn't work, they just need to look at Enterprise. Urrgh wake up Rick Berman!!

Nemesis was crap and they shouldn't have ended the TNG saga on such a bad note. They need a film that will blow the audience away. I really REALLY hope they do away with the dark sets and unknown aliens. They should break away from 'playing it safe' and should concentrate on the Star Trek saga rather than inventing something new. In Nemesis, I would rather have watched Wesley Crusher for 1 minute than stare at unknown aliens for ages and ages. Bring back Captain Kirk or the Enterprise D or something which links the show to its roots. A 'Q' film would be good.

I absolutely agree that Star Trek neeRAB to find something that it is generally comfortable with, rather than straying too far away from what Gene Roddenberry set out to do in the first place.

All we need is one character to come in and turn the whole Star Trek universe on its head. That character is:-

Q

Everyone could be going about there normal business, then, all we have to do is let him click his fingers and throw Voyager and the Enterprise across the universe to some great unknown. Fantastic, let chaos ensue..

RegarRAB,

sorry i may be missing something here. in voyager endgame didnt janeway destroy the borg? she released a virus that destroyed them (borg queen freekin out etc) and used their sub space tunnel thingies to get home while collapsing them as she went?

I think what happened with nemesis is that Trek fans just got sick of low grade trek, plus Nemesis had so many ploy holes in it no wonder it sank like the titanic,i could not believe how empty the cinema was on release night for this movie,i think word of mouth and the TV series Enterprise had started to do the damage.

Romulan rebels and slaves following a human.
A mighty war ship built next to the romulan home planet, and nobody see's it.
Were did the romulan fleet dissapear to,the heart of the romualn empire and nothing, not even a space station.
Why clone picard, how did they know he was going to become a starship captian all those years ago.
Data having yet another brother, yet nobody seems to remember lore, yet they all seem dumb struck when they descover another data.
Picard just standing there at the end of the movie doing nothing while time ticks away, yet with all his experiances, you would have thought nothing would faze him,but we all know he was waiting for data to fly in and save him.
The one man personal transporter device, all that technology and they could only make one.

Just some of the god awful ideas in the movie, plus the movie just looked cheap, and what happened to the rest of the next generation cast,Riker, troy crusher, beverly, worf, all seemed to have become wall dressing in this movie with no actual part in it.

Of course these are just my views, nothing more.
