I have to replace the old paper speakers in my Taurus, and i have heard great things about the infinity series speakers and people being able to fit them.
I have a 97 Taurus SHO with the dreaded automatic climate control, and i understand these speakers will be very under driven on the old radio/amp, so i am going to put an amp in the car to drive the speakers/tweeters. My problem is i don't know what size amp i need, since i have never used/installed one.
I am not going to be installing any more speakers or a sub, i just want to replace the old door/deck and tweeters with new ones (since they are cracking/popping so bad).
Here are the speakers:
NFINITY REFERENCE 1021T Tweeter
* 1-INCH DOME TWEETER (PAIR)
* MODEL: 1021t Reference Series
* SENSITIVITY: 93dB
* FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 2.5 - 21 KHz
* RMS POWER: 100-WATTS WITH SUPPLIED FILTER
* MAX POWER: 300-WATTS
* NOMINAL IMPEDANCE: 2.65-OHMS
INFINITY 6822CF
* 6 x 8 /5 x 7-INCH CUSTOM FIT 2-WAY SPEAKER
* MODEL: 6822CF
* PLUS ONE WOOFER CONE
* RMS POWER: 60-WATTS
* NOMINAL: 2.65-OHM
* FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 49-21,000hz
* TWEETER LEVEL CONTROL
* 180 watts peak
So what size amp do i need? I just want to be able to drive my new speakers, im not going to add more speakers, or a sub.
Also since i have not installed an amp, i presume i will run these speakers with new wires to the amp, then from the amp to the head unit. I will use the power antenna as the "on" for the amp, and use the speaker line pickup as the speaker signal (since i dont have jacks for a preamp)
So im replacing 6 speakers total, 2 door, 2 deck, 2 tweeters in door. I also believe i need a 4 channel amp and i wire only the door / deck to the amp?
