new Russell Tovey sitcom

Russell surprised me. He wasn't bad in this.

I thought he was absolute rubbish in Being Human and his acting completely spoiled the series for me.

Now then, given that he is a gay bloke in real life (not that it really matters), do you find it difficult to take him seriously in a hetero role, knowing that its not really his thing?

(I expect to get flamed, but its a sincere question).
 
Just for some balance of opinion, I really quite liked it, especially from BBC3.

Nicely understated performances and dry delivery from a good mix of non-wacky characters plus some well done, if gentle, observational (xbox deep meaningful phonecall, munchie raiding posh ham, mum type presents)

Actually seems pretty much the opposite of 2 Pints really?
 
A bit grubby , really. I expected a bit better than this. And so predictable his friends/mum/girlfriend would come back when he was, um, watching that thing on his computer.
 
First time I've watched Tovey in anything, and he was rather good.

Didn't care for the show though. Too deliberately gross for its own good. And I only laughed once - when he shut the door on that grubby neighbour with the melons in his hand.
 
Nope, not at all. In fact, I had seen him in a number of roles before I found out he was gay, and had always assumed he was straight. Doesn't make any difference.

I'm quite shocked that you found him to be rubbish in Being Human.
 
Really really bad - but for some strange reason - I quite like it!

I caught the first one by accident last week one night after Family Guy and kept meaning to turn it off, but couldn't.

Just watched the 2nd on iPlayer on purpose! Oh dear! heh
 
I was looking forward to watching this, but switched off after five minutes when the girl popped onto the loo and began to do her business. I don't have a problem with crude (I've watched every single episode of Two Pints - and to my eternal shame enjoyed them!), but this just felt grubby and dirty for the sake of it.

Yes, because it's a ridiculous set of films.

Do you find it difficult to take Hugh Laurie seriously in House knowing that he's not really a Doctor?

Nope because he is believable in the role and his great character helps to cover up the fact as well. When you watch House you don't think of Blackadder or Jeeves and Wooster at all

Do you find it difficult to take Humphrey Bogart seriously in Casablanca knowing he isn't really an ex-pat running a bar and helping the resistance?

Nope because most of it is set in Rick's Bar. He could easily be an accountant for what difference it would make to his character and the film.

Do you find it difficult to take John Hurt seriously in the elephant man knowing that he isn't, in fact, the Elephant Man?

How do you know? You've never seen them together at the same time have you? ;)
 
I found it disgusting... However I could not switch off and I will most likely watch the whole series... However Russell put on some shoddy acting over these two series. He needs to d gripping drama.
 
Appauling. I'd Sky+ it and turned it off half way though because I found it unfunny and crude.

Surprising as one of my all-time favourite comedies is 'Bottom', which is probably as crude as they come, but H&H just was not my taste to say the least.
 
Brilliantly observed programme. the mum and birdthday present bit was squirmingly accurate. The surprise of the neighbours excellent present ( always a dilema when you dont like someone)
I thought royal family type pace and dialogue.
Sarah is hugely fit for purpose. Im in love with her eyes!! and attitude.

do squirm at time but I think if it wasnt for Sarah im not sure I would continue watching ( shallow, but there is a something compelling about whats going to hapen next .)

Why do we never see Russel Tovey and Pob in the same room :D
 
I put it on series link to record but have deleted that after watching the first episode - I agree with all those who have said it was grubby.

There were some genuinely funny bits in it, but most of the time I just found it a bit grim.

Didn't know Russell Tovey was gay but don't find him any less believable as a straight bloke for knowing it. If someone camp (I'm thinking Graham Norton-esque) was playing straight I would struggle, but RT's far from camp and a decent actor.
 
It had the odd funny line but I hated the toilet based jokes. Too gross for me as I don't mind some dirty humour but people sat on toilets is something I don't need to see. Hope there's less of it in next week's episode.
 
Agree.Toilet and wank humour juvenile.
Grubby sums it up well on several levels.
The neighbour was the only (slightly) amusing character.
Russell Tovey is better than this.

Wont be watching again
