New RoboCop Movie

Paul Verhoven and Peter Weller are both VERY VERY interested in making a new *REAL* sequel to the original film. Wheather this means ingoring the 2 sequels or not is debatable, but all I can say is that if you're a fan of the original like me, keep your ears open.

Source DVD Monthly Magazine Jan/Feb 2002 containing exclusive interviews with Weller and Verhoven

OK, a lot of the feel and humor of the original movie is due to Verhove's direction and Peter Weller will forever be Robocop but a successful sequel requires the Miner/Neumeir writing team.

Such a movie could run into funding difficulties though, given that the coporate branded culture the original so brutally satarized is more of a reality now than it ever was in the eighties and the big production companies (AOL Time Warner, et al) are major players in corporate culture. Are they really going to risk being ridiculed in their own production?

Still, as recent PS2 release "State OF Emergency" shows, even counter culture can be co-opted by "The Man".

According to the interviews, ALL the people responsible for the first movie are all looking forward to the new film. Neumier and Miner and all of the original people who were behind the scenes at the original are being called back into action.

Also, Verhoven has stated several times in the interview that he may ignore the two sequels, this means that either the new film will continue from where he left off, with RoboCop walking out of the OCP building, or possibly way after that, where RoboCop has been put away in storage and hasn't been used in years, and suddenly has been called back into action.

Either way, there has been a massive buzz created and it may be early next year when shooting starts for the expected 2004 cinema release...

Let's hope they do ignore the sequels, the TV series, the cartoon, the TV movies, in fact, everything that even mentions the word Robocop subsequent to the 'Murphy' line in the original.

But Nancy Allen can stay dead.

A 600+ page petition has been copied 3 times and sent to MGM, Paul Verhoven and Peter Weller.

It is expected that the new sequel will start production in late 2003 or early 2004.

TXCN.com talked to Paul Verhoeven and discussed the recent rumor of a 'Robocop' resurrection...

It sounRAB like it could be sooner than we think. "I'd like to go back and do it properly, as I said, it's just a matter of time and viability" he told . Verhoeven said the sequels to Robocop and the TV series there treated as if they 'never existed' anyway - and his film will be a "Robocop 2003" style story - following on from the events in the 1987 film. "We're talking to Peter about donning the suit again. But Nancy won't be involved. They killed her in one of the sequels. A new partner is in order".

Damn it, you're quick!

Thinking I had been one of the first to learn of this information, I rush here to post it, and find you have already done so!

Anyway, great news, hopefully MGM will give us something concrete before the end of the year...

It has been said by Verhoven that Nancy Allen will not appear in the new RoboCop movie.

Not that he dosen't want her, but she dosen't want to take part. She didn't even want to take part in RoboCop 3, but they offered her big $$ to do it, and then she made sure she only had a small part, i.e. being killed off.

Sadly, no Mrs. Allen, but Weller is still in the frame for the title role, and things are going to happen sooner rather then later.

There are posters now appearing showing Robocop and coming in 2010 so it's going to happen, not sure if anyone mentioned above is still involved though.

FunGuyNI is my old username! Hey, this is an old post! Anyway, it will only take them 8 years since they announced it, but the movie will be out in 2010!
