new rider, ate asphalt, poor bike. 1098s suggestions why?

+1 to the answer to DUCATI5. You had a newbie moment on a big bike. The only thing to add is that you can avoid some of that lock-up by just blipping the throttle before releasing the clutch. I found this out on one of my favorite local tracks. I had to gear down to second aggressively for one corner of the track, when I didnt blip the throttle it stepped out with a bit of lockup, I thought it was cool, but it definately took my concentration off of setting up for the corner. I started blipping the throttle and it was like night and day. Such a shame to learn the hard way on a beautiful bike!
 
yeah it is the bike of my dreams. My brother died on one and I always loved them but never wanted to risk it. The reason i say its over geared is because when I in around town ,we;; i just know. i used to race an all carbon twin cltch that makes this clutch feel soft,.

I hope the damage is not too bad but right now i cant bear to look at her. At my age 35, i bought this bike for cruising around to work etc. I feel really foolish for falling into the trap of going on that ride. I should have known it would have gotten hot. But still i would appreciate any technical answers. For now i am just bed ridden nut feel so shitty since the 1098s or R were hard to find since i was looking for one for a while!!

Okay, everyone landed on you pretty hard here, but I hope that doesn't make you want to not come back.

Sorry to hear about your off but glad that you are physically able to post about it.

Ducati's have CRAZY torque and compression compared to Japanese models and as such are pretty unforgiving when it comes to downshifting into the lower gears. These pistons are massive when you put them beside a Kawa, Suz or anything like that.

I've had my rear break loose on a straight line going from 2nd to 1st just because I dropped it at around 3k.
 
To be fair, I don't think MSF would cover the differences between the Duc's and everything else.

Could be wrong but even if they did it wouldn't be touched until advanced.

Any MSF instructors here to chip in?
 
996Vtwin you have to understand that Ducati owners really, really love their bikes some more than their children and to see one binned like that gets people ed up. Most of what you will get is good advice, take the MSF course and don't let squidy friends push you.
 
The 848 may be different than the 1098, but I find downshifting into 1st not all that bad due to the super tall gearing. On my kawi 600, downshifting into 1st was way harder on the bike (and me).

Hell, I can only go 15 mph in first on my Kawi, and can hit at least 40 mph on the 848...

I don't get it exactly...
