New phone VZW

Swine Flu

New member
So I've been looking at new phones...

I want a couple of things...

1. NON-PDA...
2. NON-FLIP!!!!
3. MP3 w/ expandable memory
4. decent pics, rediculous HQ isn't required
5. downloadable goodies

I've been looking at a few phones...

1. Chocolate
2. LG VX9900
3. Samsung a930
4. v3 RAZR

what's suggestions / advice / etc?

i know jack **** about phones... lol

i currently have the lg vx5200 and it's a piece of fragile, hot buttocks.
i live in new york city... and i go to school in north east pennsylvania in a semi suburban area.

shouldnt be a difference since it's so far away and i have time to save up... saying around 50--150 should be decent range, WITH the service renewal

the razr v3c, samsung a930 and the 9900 are all technically flip phones. the closest to what you want is the chocolate. even though it has ridiclously small, it meets your criteria

well, the razr was a last minute thing that i was convinced by my friend to look into, and the samsung was the only exception that i thought of because i like samsung phones. i basically meant any new suggestions = no flips. sorry about my lack of clarity

the 9900 isn't a typical flip phone, so i was liking that. i've broken two LG flips by holding it on my ear before. i occassionally am talking while running, and that's when they've both broke.

and yes, i'm on verizon.

i checked there for the nokia, and it didn't say anything about MP3 / expandable media support... that's a nono, unless they just neglected to mention it on the page.

If the new SLVR is out before Dec. 19th for VZW, then I'll look into that as well, but last I checked there was no announced date for Verizon to get that phone.

the moto e815 meets all of your criteria, except for non-flip, although it is a very sturdy hinge. i have dropped mine many many times and the hinge is still solid as brand new. but the chocolate meets everything you want, has a good camera and has the "wow" factor that comes with that phone. i wouldnt get the v3 razr, wayyy to many people have it nowdays, and it doesnt even have all that many extra features! so, you will probably want to go with chocolate or the 9900

i like the 9800(9900 predecessor) because of the large screen, and the full keyboard. i also like that it can flip for dual purposes!

i am frequently in both areas and am currently looking into basically the same phones you are. I actually was in the Stroud Mall yesterday and went to the VZW kiosk in the middle of the mall. You should know I dislike flip (clamshell) phones as well, but the nokia 6236i is the only feasable option, all be it without bluetooth and i dont think you can add any memory. So, having a clamshell or vx 9800 type phone is pretty much your option, as candybar style phones are rare with verizon. Any who, go to the VZW kiosk and check for yourself, the only two phones that I saw that were actually getting reception in there was the samsung a930 and the motorola v325. my phone wasnt getting reception standing right next to them, nor was any other besides those two models. I know verizon is the best service in that part of PA, so dont be discouraged about the fact that those were the only two to get service, its just a weak spot right there, but it does say something about those two models RF reception. (or you can wait for the lg vx9900, and see what that brings) Do note however, the samsung is all digital, but the v325 is tri-mode, which may make a difference to you, i dont know. the only time i really need analog, is when i go riding in Vermont, but as thats becoming less important, i dont sweat not having analog anymore. rest assured that every place i've been around your part of PA, my digtal signal is better than I get in Brooklyn. I hope I've helped, reply if you need more, and I'm sorry they closed Hoola Hoops on you.

lol, small world.
@ esu, i get better reception than my house in brooklyn, but other than that, i get better overall in NY than I do up here.

if i get time tomorrow (i'm headed to office max anyways), i'm probably going to stop in teh stroud mall actually

as for the last comment... hoola hoops? i frequent floods... never went to the hoop.

the v325 is also a very sturdy and solid phone. but one problem with it is the user interface, which is on every current verizon wireless phone except the wm5, palm phones and e815. most people hate the UI, and it is hard to use anything but gin on it!

i went to look at phones today and i don't like the chocolate as much as i thought i would

one question though... i was told that through vcast i can only play WMA files... is there any downloads i can get that will let me play MP3s?

well, i dont know the answer to your last question, but definitley use your trial period! you can learn a lot about a phone from your trial period. you can also return a phone if you dont like it? i believe?
