My SE T610 was stolen yesterday as I was exiting a tram in Hong Kong. Now, I am in the process of replacing the phone. However, neither the T610 nor the T630 are available here anymore. I was hoping to get one of these models because they work good with the T3. I am now scratching my head wondering what phone to get. I would like to get a reliable and low cost bluetooth phone that works well with the T3.

I have been looking at some alternatives such as the SE K700, Motorola V501, and the Motorola E398.

I am interested in hearing from any of you who have used these phones before. I would like to know how well they work and if there are any issues. Thanks in advance for your responses.
 
Well, I went ahead and got a Motorola E398. A local electrical store had a great installment plan and lots of gifts were bundled with the phone such as a second battery, desktop charger with an extra battery slot, screen protector, USB cable, 1 stereo surround sound headset, 1 stereo headset, leather case, card reader for the Trans flash, and a memory card.

This phone has a lot of nice features. The screen is nice and the sound is great. I have not tried sending SMS via bluetooth yet. Also, I have not intalled the Phone Link software yet. However, I have been able to send photos via bluetooth to my T3. I had the sales person demonstrate this function before I made a decision on which model to get.

With no responses to my post, I am assuming nobody has used this phone before. I will report back on how well Phone Link works.
 
well i recently bought the k700i ,because the price drop and it's a good phone,well the camara isn't that good compare with the new SE 2-megapixel phones,but the bluetooth works very well with my T3,and also it's a phone remember,not a camara,nor a video recorder and so far i think SE has more user-friendly features than moto
 
I didn't actually get the e398 because of the bundled applications. I mainly got it because it was one of the lowest-priced bluetooth phones in Hong Kong.

The price of the K700 was not in my budget. Had a SE T610 or T630 been available, I would have gotten it without hesitation. I really like the address book in Sony Ericsson more than Motorola's. SE has more fields for storing multiple phone numbers and street addresses. However, I don't really need all the fancy applications that come with the phone anyway. I use my T3 for most of the everyday tasks and mainly use the phone for making calls. It also doubles up as a wireless modem so that I can retrieve email and send SMS.

I did some reading about the e398. It seems that SMS does not work very well when it is connected to a PDA. I am still tweeking with the settings to see if I can get it to work. The internet connection is alright when using the v500, v600, or the TP280i drivers in Phone Link. I read on another forum that there is a program called CoMa (Connection Manager) which might help. I have been able to use the Dialer program to make phone calls. It is mainly the messaging I need to set up.

As mentioned in my previous post, I have been able to send pictures from the e398 to the T3 without installing any drivers.

The e398 has built-in stereo speakers with suround sound, MP3 and MPEG4 playback. It has a reflective screen so it can be seen in direct sunlight. There is a meter that detects when to light up the keypad. It is also possible to use the phone as a USB flash disk. It has a slot for plugging in a TransFlash memory card. MP3 files can be selected as ring tones.

I checked out Connection Manager Delux at http://www.79bmedia.com and found out that the Motorola v600 and other phones without SMS drivers in Phone Link actually work with Connection Manager. If you can't get Phone Link to work, you should take a look at that program. I installed the trial version of Connection Manager and then went into Prefs to look at the connection settings. From their, I opened up the connection that Connection Manager created and was able to see the modem init string and other information. I was then able to uninstall Connection Manager and create a new connection using the settings I recorded. The init string for the Motorola E398 is the following:

E1&C1&D0X1S7=99+CMEE=1;+CSCS="GSM";V1

Other settings for the connection:

Connect to: Phone
Via: Bluetooth
Device: Motorola E398 (Whatever name you choose on the phone)

Model: Motorola TP280

Speed: 57,600 bps

My phone is working now.
