New Palm TX Ac Adapter really hot... is this normal?

troublesome

Hello there, just got a new TX this morning, while I'm not new to PDA's, I am new to the TX.

However, when I plugged it in to charge it for the 3 hours I noticed near the end of that time that the AC Adapter was really hot.

Now, not too hot to touch, but certainly warmer then any other PDA I've ever used.

Anyone else experience this?

I mean, it's charging fine and all, it's just hotter then I would have expected.

Thanks all!

Toward the end of the charge, the adapter should actually start cooling as the charging circuit draws less current. During the "fast" part of the charge, it's normal for the adapter to get warm--though "hot" might not be normal; that would depend on the voltage and amperage of the adapter. A higher voltage/lower current adapter (5.5V, 500mA) would probably get warmer than one rated at a lower voltage and higher current (5V, 1A), and Palm has been known to use either.

I would take it back to the store and question the heat issue. Mine gets warm (had mine for 4 days now) but never hot. I had an adapter on my external charger for my DVR get "hot" and a week later I was replacing the charging unit. Good luck.

Cheers,
John
