I had a 2 level (L4/L5, L5/S1) surgery done in Feb 2006. I have artificial discs with the hardware. I have been having pretty severe pain that makes my hip, the outside of my leg into the front, all the way down to my knee. It makes it even hard to walk. Neurontin, Soma, and my dilaudid isn't touching the pain. These usually help.

Is this just what I refer to as a "nerve flare up" from my previous surgery or should I see the doc to find out if it is another disc? I have DDD and one of my MRI's on my back did have something on it about either a screw or the disc had shifted. At the time, my neurologist said it wasn't an issue so I haven't been concerned with it. I know there was some degeneration of L1/L2, L2/L3 and L3/L4 was bulging at the time of that MRI but it hasn't caused any problems (YET)

Any ideas which disc can be causing this?

Hugg,

I would definitely see your doctor so that he can update the MRI/CT/myleogram scan to get to the root of the problem. It could simply be a matter of inflammation and you might need a epidural injection or medrol pack to relieve the inflammation or it could be another disc or a new problem developing.

For now as you await to see your doctor, I will pray that this is not anything more than an inflammation. Take care and keep us posted. We are here for you.
