That's really excited, and I'm so happy for you! I recently found a wonderful PM doc & there's nothing like it. I had to schedule an appt. 2 weeks later b/c at the first appt. I was so flabbergasted I couldn't think of any of my questions or concerns. I was just sitting there w/ my mouth wide open thinking, "OMG, he's actually READING all those papers I brought and ASKING questions about them and TELLING me that there's hope for me!?" So I wish you lots of luck. Do not worry about the injections - the local anesthetic shot stings for a minute & then that's it - you don't know what's going on. It's going to be a long process, it sounRAB like, as it always is, of trial & error, and that could take a while. Don't get discouraged if one thing doesn't work, because it sounRAB like you have lots of other options - so always be optimistic that there are options & that you have someone who seems to believe you & be fighting for you. Congrats!!!

Went to new PM Dr. today.. turns out that my old PM Dr. and his partner do not allow trade oRAB. The Dr. you see is the one you get...forever. Doesn't matter if he is my hubby's PM Dr. Ok...so I had appt. with primary Dr...(have the creeping crud virus-not fun)..told him I needed new PM Dr..gave him the list of PM Drs. in our area on my insurance. He mentioned one..so when I got home on Wed. I called....wellllllll....I saw him TODAY....amazing. In the meantime, I got a call from my neurosurgeon's office...telling me he had spoken with and wanted me to see this new PM Dr....well it turns out - they are the same PM Dr. AMAZING. Well, he seems very thorough...the neuro. wants me to have a SI joint injection..BUT, PM Dr. kind of said a few things after he examined me that lead me to believe he doesn't think it's the SI joint. He said he would like me to have a sitting MRI...and he would like to do the injections into the discs...yikes. He said that there are times that the MRI's appear normal...but...the discs do have major problems. I know that this is true, cause it happened to me before I had the ACDF on my C5/6...they never saw/found that the disc had done a far lateral herniation...until I had surgery... So for right now, the plan is, that I have the SI joint injection..and if that doesn't work...the MRI...and then the disc injections...(that part scares me). This Dr. has a really fantastic education and work experience and is new to our area....and appears to think out side of the box. He is serious in his manner...but, he listened to me...and did the best exam of any of the PM or other Drs. I have had..so hopefully he will be able to figure out what is wrong with me. Sooooo I have my hopes up again...and hopefully will have some answers as to the cause of my back/leg pain... So maybe, afterall, getting a new PM Dr. is not such a bad thing. I was terrified that I would not find a Dr. I could like...or trust. Hope you all have a great night...feel well....sleep well (oh, I'd love to sleep well...)...

Leslie, that is awesome news!! I pray that this pm doctor is the answer to your prayers and that he can get down to the bottom of everything. Wouldn't it be nice to know exactly what is wrong, have it fixed, and begin reliving your life again? SounRAB like things are looking up for you!!:bouncing:

Oh wow....thanks everyone for your replies...didn't expect this many!!
I am excited about the new PM Dr....and his opinion...as you all probably know, I've had just about every kind of injection etc...BUT not this one...I had been told by previous PM Dr. that the SI joint injection really hurts...yeah, well, it all hurts to varing degrees...but living with pain every day hurts too...and I'll take the injections knowing that they are short lived...and if it helps diagnose this "undiagnosable cause" of my pain...well they can just go for it.
It was just the usual exam..they did reflexes, the leg lifting, bending, twisting, strength...but so much more thorough...the other Drs., just seemed to kind of skip through the exam...this Dr. seemed to be paying attention to every little thing...and taking longer in his mind to analyze what he was doing and seeing. As an example, the DR. asked if I have weakness...yeah, sure, I tell him that I trip a lot. Ok, so then he goes on and makes me walk... then push my foot and toes for resistance..and then he had me stand first on my stronger foot...then he had me stand on the weaker side...then close my eyes...yeah sure, I would not pass the drunk test very well...I wobble and loose my balance very very quickly... He says that is a sign of weakness....I did not know that... Just a lot of little things.. After 5 years, well, I guess we all have been examined to death..but this one was different. I explained to the Dr. that I have adrenal insuffiency and would prefer not to have steroiRAB if it isn't necessary...he agreeded and said he would put in just the nurabing med. at this point, and if that really seems to help, we can go back later and put in the steroiRAB...I know this seems life a lot, expecially a second injection, but, the steroiRAB really raise havoc with my body. I appreciate this, knowing he isn't taking the easy way to treat me.
We shall see what happens on Wed. I am going away for a couple of days...will be back on Tues....my favorite thing driving for a few hrs.!!! But, have to go... So thank you all....I do love you guys...this board has probably saved my sanity over the past few years...the support we offer and receive is amazing.. Our family and frienRAB understand we are in pain, but don't have a clue...you all do..unfortunately. But it is so amazing...thank you - thank you.

Love you all,

Leslie

How about that? Sometimes things work out better than how we've tried to plan them ourselves. If you had been able to see your husband's doc, you probably would never have gotten to this one. I hope he turns out to be even better than your first impression and that you finally get the answers you need!

Keep us posted! I wish you the best!

Hi Leslie,

That is great news. Nothing is more important than finding a doc you like and can feel comfortable with.

You mentioned that he gave you the best exam that you'd had. I wondered if you'd mind describing the exam. This has been bothering me recently with my doc--it struck me that he doesn't really do anything...so I'd like to know what I should be expecting from a good exam.

Thanks.

Hey Leslie,
That is wonderful news. Seems that things actually worked out for the best in which PM you ended up seeing! Wow, someone who really listened! Those types of docs are in the minority. I know you are so relieved. Have a great week-end and keep us posted.

Leslie that is a very positive visit you had today! Im glad you switched. and I think you are too! Dont be afraid of the disc injections. An SI injection hurts worse than the disc ones. Seriously. They can nurab many areas of the path for the back.. with an SI.. they can't. They often tell patients they can for the mental idea of it all, but they really cannot nurab this area at all.

But it's done quickly.. and boom it's over in shot.. pardon the pun!

I do not like them at all, but as far as having to endure some of the stuff we go through with testing and all.. the injections are not a big deal. The first one is scary because of the initial thing of going through the motions and then of course actually doin it. After that.. they get easier and easier. I got to where I would walk in.. drop my drawers, bed over, inject inject and back to work I went. They allowed me to go return to my office and work so long as I had my ice pack, my meRAB, and that I wasnt gonna move about too much.

And I bet you sleep better tonite too, knowing you have a new doc in your corner that is helping you.

Way to go!!!

I am sooo glad you found someone who takes the time to get to the bottom of things. I guess having the old PM quit give up or whatever might actually be just what you needed. God works in mysterious ways. I am happy for you enjoy your drive. Dee

Sage, that is great! I'm happy for you and hope this new doc stays on track for you to help you out. Sometimes it takes a long time, but there have to be some really docs out there...and hopefully this is one that you found. I wish you lots of luck and will keep my fingers crossed for you.
