New Nokia N80 FW MCU SW v04.0707.0.7. - UPDATE

I really haven't noticed much of a difference since the update. VOIP quality unchanged. I can't see how firmware would affect VOIP quality as this is more internet traffic/VOIP carrier related.

All N80s are now IE because of the last firmware. So in reality, this update is available to N80s period. I'll upgrade it if I ever get my N80 back . . . its in the PH with my mom who is trying to get an N95.

Has anyone been able to update via FOTA? It keeps telling me "No updates available" and I DON'T want to risk updating though NSU again.

Problems i've been experiencing after the update:

Extremely slow install times on all apps/games.
Extremely slow times on saving files received over B/T.
Pain in the * - Flashing messages not working (Credit check on o2)

Other then that... perfect

I really haven't noticed a difference, except that my phone is a little zippier. But that is always the case after a firmware update or even a hard reset. I always apply a firmware update in case there are some improvements under the hood, even if I'm not aware of them.

Have not had many "out of memory" situations since the previous update. It helps to have nothing running except the browser, and not to open more than a couple of windows. It also helps to reboot the phone daily - this shuts down processes that otherwise remain open even after exiting an application.

I'm sorry, I could have sworn I saw it up there recently, but can't seem to find it. I'll let you know if I do come across it. Might have been on another forum.

Mine just says N80.

Do you mean you've actually got FOTA to detect the update? Mine just says there are no updates available.

sinta,

What is FOTA? I didn't have any problems updating my N80ie at all using NSU but would be nice to know all the alternatives.

Anyway my big problem with the phone is that I can't seem to see this supposedly UPnP device on my small LAN.

I bought a LinkSys WRT54G wireless router and added it to my small LAN by connecting it to my cable modem and connecting one of it's output ports to my Linksys SD2008 Gigabit switch. I can connect to the router and to the internet without difficulty from my N80 and browse, check my Google email etc even with the sim card out of the phone using WPA2 Personal and a Pre Shared Password.

However I cannot see the phone at all on my wired network computers. I followed the directions for setting up the Simplecenter Home Media Center software, exactly as far as I can tell. There is a notation about having Ports 1900, 49152 and 49153 open, but the directions fail to mention whether this is a TCP Port or UDP Port. So I have totally shut off Windows firewall.

When I try to use the Gallery and select Home Network, the phone connects to my WLAN, but it stays forever at the message "Waiting for Devices" and never either becomes visible on my wired machine or does the wired machine files become visible on my phone.

Content Sharing in the Gallery is turned on.

Does this feature work for you.... or for anybody?
If so is there something I need to do with my wireless router differently or ??

Observations:
It takes longer than before for the standby screen to show after opening the slider if the phone is in sleep mode.
The GSM request codes like #646# for T-Mobile get sent but the network does not respond. This is a major bug.
VOIP call quality is noticeably improved.

just tried the fido network check code (am in the home area or expanded coverage, if youre on fido you know what i mean) *#123# and got the same result as cibalom did with #646# for t-mobile on his n80 - the n80 said it was requesting and then nothing happened - i wonder if anyone at nokia knows about this yet? i wonder if there is there any way at filing a report with them about this?

I updated my N80 to N80ie via NSU, too, but after you do there's a new feature. Go to Connect in the main menu, then device manager, and that's FOTA. It's a way to update your firmware via Wifi without having to connect your phone to a computer, but I haven't been able to try it yet.

I've given up on connecting my phone to my home network the way you mean, because I never got it to work. I downloaded Simple Center too!

I don't think so. The menu that appears when you click right should be separate from the menu for the FOTA. On S60 clicking right on most menus takes you to the next menu - it's just a shortcut. I think that if server profiles needed to be defined we wouldn't get as far as checking for updates.

On the other hand, if you're right, that may be why I'm running the second-latest firmware and FOTA still is unable to detect any available updates...

Thanks, Kevlarman, for the tutorial. I'll try it when I get the chance, too.

I couldn't get it to work on mine either. I hope they will fix it soon.

One thing I notice is the LEAP authentication for WLAN works now. It could be just me but once in a while I get disconnected from the WAP.

They don't put full updates (70+MB) on the FOTA, only small ones. More exactly there was only one small update earlier for the N80 on the FOTA.

the update before this was atleast recognized on fota but it had some server error so i did it with the cable. The one i did before that worked on fota but i guess that was the one small one you were talking about

This new firmware is making me mad . . . Music Player will not update the library, there is a blank screensaver now, and there are tiny little bugs that are just annoying.
