Love the original BUT this looks identical, same ideas etc, is it a reboot or just straight shot by shot remake (with his origin story tagged on)?? Not saying it will be bad but was expecting more.

Yeah,it really isn't worth watching.Think Ammityville Horror 2005 and Friday the 13th 2009 - this one is very similar.
I won't rip it to shreaRAB like many people have because it's competently enough made, but it's very forgettable.

It's actually fairly boring too,an inferior movie to both Elm Street 5 and 6 - at least they had a sense of humour and inventive dream sequences. The acting is wooden as hell, with the actress playing Nancy so low key that she could be mistaken for an extra! JEH does a good job,yet he really doesn't have the interesting features that Robert Englund has,nor does he bring anything new to the character. The makeup (although realistic) somehow stips away all the personality too; not once is this version of Freddy remotely unnerving.

This movie lives off the old jumpy moment, yet unsurprisingly that wears thin after 15 minutes. There is no suspense or atmosphere whatsoever, with about 5 or 6 sequences from the orignal reshot and a plot that is recycled, featuring only minor creativity. There is the obligatory pounding soundtrack alongside the swift action, not to metion the actors that look too old to play high school students. There is a pseudo twist thoughout this movie, yet the revelation is not only predictable, but nonsensical when you think about it.Even the wisecrack is recycled from a prior Elm Street film!

Wes Craven's concept was so imaginative, and so original, that a critically and artistically successful remake should have been a no brainer.Unfortunately,Michael Bay strikes again!

It get's a 4/10 from me.

I'm going to see this tonight. I think it's made mainly for the fans.

I've been an Elm Street fan for 15 years and love them all. People slate Part 2 but I absolutly loved it, and still do. Part 5 was the worst for me.

This is why I think I'll like this one.

I thought it was below average:

  • Forced,cliched dialogue.
  • Extremely low-key heroine.
  • Awful CGI - the poorly edited shock ending to NOES 2 was more convincing (and that was 25 years ago).
  • No suspense or atmosphere, instead relying shock moment after shock moment.
  • Overall direction was completely indistinguishable from every other mainstream horror movie.
  • Plot was recycled from other Elm Street movies, with only minor adjustments.
  • Predictable.
  • Cliched ending ripped off from another movie.
  • Too quick paced to engross.
  • The acting from Kellan Lutz and Connie Britton was noticeably wooden.
  • The major issue - JEH's wasn't intimidating at all.The realistic approach to the make up,and his face in general, made Freddy expressionless.

What didn't make sense was:
They tried to make Freddy the victim for awhile, until it was revealed he was molesting the kiRAB.But where does the glove figure into the equation?

It seems to draw almost entirely from the original.

A Nightmare On Elm Street could, and should have been for a remake, a blank page. It's not adapted from a novel, they could have done a complete 180.

Instead Freddy has the same hat, same glove, same outfit. There is also the same song, story line and scenes in the movie.

If you're not going to do it differently - why bother doing it at all? Why not just re-run the old series?

Also, there is a problem about Robert Englund not playing Freddy. He IS the character.

It's like....well, another Freddie...Queen touring without Mercury. Yeah it's different but without Freddy(ie), it's not really as good...is it? It can't be.

You've got to have balls to try and do a cult classic like this but they obviously weren't big enough or them to really do something special with it.

All I'll be able to think about when watching it is "How comes Freddy isn't in it? Not that one...the REAL one"

I love the series, especially the second one because Freddy is truly evil in that one.The 5th was fairly dreary, but had some interesting dream sequences. However,I found this one really boring, even to the point that I wanted the cinema to put on the original instead!

It reminded me of a cross between The Unborn and One Missed Call.

I liked part 2 aswell, jesse's bedroom dance scene is priceless!i used to have the dream warriors poster in my bedroom when it 1st came out,the poster was really creepy with freddy coming out of the mist,i agree part 5 was brutal,i liked dream master lots though, the elm street legacy dvd is out now,i might buy it.

Oh FGS. People are allowed to have opinions on stuff you know.

Sorry, I forgot I was protesting about being "forced" to watch it

Good god. It's a film trailer posted on a message board. I'm familiar with the original, unimpressed with how close to the original the new film seems to be.

Next time you express an opinion on a movie, a TV show, a sport, a restaurant, a book, a play, a song...I look forward to using the "nobody is forcing you to do it" argument.

TowarRAB the end, Quentin and Nancy find some blades in his room, they also showed Nancy as a little girl with 4 scars on her back. He just made a weapon thats all.

Not sure what everyone was expecting. No point bringing back Robert Englund. This is a reboot of a movie.

It was just nice to see Freddy back on the cinema screen. Whatever you all think, this movie is doing well, and the DVD will too...because it's Elm Street and it sells!

They took ideas and stuff from the movies, and made it their own. I agree, no CGI should be used as I hate it, but then again these days, if a foam board for $10 was used like in the original, people would slate how unrealistic it was!

There are parts in the trailer, to do with the younger cast, that didn't appear in the original, but also has the famous scenes from the original put into the 'remake'(hand in bath, ceiling kill).

It's definitely not a shot for shot remake, that's obvious from the trailer, but it is a remake with new things added in.

Couldn't agree more!

I came away thinking they may as well have digitally remastered the original and re-released it.

6/10 and that's mostly for the very final scene

Hey everyone,

As a huge fan of the original and meeting the cast, i wanted to see the remake the first day it came out.

So i just came back from seeing it, i have to say that it isnt a patch on the original but i suppose if you compared the remake and compared it to recent horror films, then, its pretty good.

Some scenes are good and Freddy is quite a scary villain. Nancy however is quite a weak character, nothing like Heather Langenkamp and Nancy was a lot more stronger in the original, this one is just very weak.

I thought the character of female Chris was far better. There are some good visual scenes but if you're expecting it to be as good as the original, forget it.

I'll give it a 7/10...thats probably being generous.

that really does look, rather cool

i like what they have done with the make up evidenced in that last shot

looks a little more menacing
