New n85 nam firmware is out!

Well guys I hate to bail on ya but after three dropped calls when talking to THETRUTH and have never had dropped calls ever since I joined AT&T I just got mad and am sending it back to Amazon and have preordered the N86, betting on the fact that the N86 will be better I just hope I do not live to regret my actions!!!! :befuddled

i had difficulty in doing a hard reset also... the 3 finger salute (haha, i like that) worked for me. to do it, i think you need to power off your phone; press "3", "#", and the green talk button - then power it on

i recently purchased a nam version black n85 with version 11.019 pre-installed. like most of you, tried updating with the latest fw to v 30.019 using ovi suite and had numerous failed attempts. i tried following the instructions to remove battery, usb cable, etc to a tee several times to no avail. finally, on my last attempt, followed the instructions again on rebooting the phone but instead of reconnecting my phone via usb again, i tried updating via OTA. that worked seamlessly! i've only had my n85 for two weeks and have not played around with it much before updating my fw so i can't really say what changes/bugs it fixed. one thing i noticed for the better was that it installed the dictionary app on my phone. one other change that i noticed, which i don't care about and actually don't like is that the volume icon on my phone now is not the ascending orange bars it used to have with version 11.019. now it's just a blue inverted right triangle. now, my questions:

1. does anybody noticed this change too? anybody has any suggestions on how to get the original volume icon back?
2. maybe reverting back to the original fw will fix it, can that be done? how do you downgrade/go back to an earlier fw version?
3. or maybe something went wrong with my fw installation. can it be uninstalled and reinstalled? how?

appreciate your feedback. thanks!

Just to let others know, the Black/Copper N85 now has the update available.
I did the update and one ran into one problem... had my profile under my custom "Work" setting. Instructions say to leave it on one of the normal profiles, like "Normal". haha, oops. I reinstalled in case but so far it looks fine... can't see anything new yet.

you can get rid of the 'Share Online' plug-in I believe either through the Settings > Display menus or through the Share Online > Settings menu

I can't remember which one exactly but its definitely possible.

What version? 20 or 30?

That is what we have been talking about for the last two or three pages and all the trouble that has been happening with the phones, I updated my N85 Black clear back on the 7th of the month to V 3.0.

I've been checking daily and updated when I saw your post. You are my favorite person of the day, haha.
mine now says v20.175 (rm-334)

here's what i don't understand. How does the keypad get scratched (mine got scratched too)? It looks like there's a gap between the front and the keypad on the back panel.

Could you guys check what your cpu speed is after the firmware update? The 5800 cpu got overclocked to 434mhz after the latest update and it has the same cpu as the N85.

thanks jrsjr for your reply. how about the others? what are your experiences with upgrading your firmware and the volume icon. did it change or remained the same? the change in the volume icon look, is it really part of the fw update, or did i just do something different that it changed that as well? another change i noticed after my upgrade is that the phone does not recognize all my contacts in my sim card. it reads sim full with only 122 contacts. but when i put my sim in another phone, it reads all my 217 contacts and still has room for more. i'm not sure why that is.

also, anyone who has upgraded their firmware from v. 11.047 direct to v. 30.019? what are your experiences? also, does it make a difference how you do your upgrade, i.e. via OTA, PC Suite, or Ovi Suite? the reason i'm asking is that we bought a second n85 (one for me and other for hubby). and with the flaws i'm seeing with the first one, i'm debating whether it's worth it to upgrade my firmware now or wait for a new one (looks like v. 31.xx is available according to the website). or if i just messed up the upgrading process of the first one that's why it's having those issues. i hope you guys can enlighten me.

thanks!

Ok, thanks. It says software version 20.175, 6-4-09. Then it says, latest update- Not updated.

I updated through the Nokia software updater from PC suite when i first got the phone but I guess it didn't work. I tried an OTA update but it said no update available.

It should be version 30.0?

Tried it twice and no go at all. As for worth update I have not had my N85 copper for so long I would not know what is new and what isn't!!
