*NEW* N73 Firmware: v3.0649.0.0.1

Just saw the post about checking under the battery. doing so produces a code which I cannot find reference to anywhere... can anybody confirm this code?

0543843.

My phone shipped from Hong Kong so I would imagine it to be somewhat local to there.

How long does that usually take?

Just curious....not in a hurry to update to this FW unless I see something in the changelog. My N73 is extremely stable right now, and has about 30+ meg free phone RAM with the apps I have currently running/using.

Wrong. You have about 30+ meg free ROM. ROM is different than RAM.

RAM is what makes your phone run
ROM is storage, nothing more.

What app are you using to see your free RAM? None of the built-in Nokia apps will show you your RAM. Check out Handy Taskman or Tasky to see your free RAM.

Anyone have any idea why Nokia doesn't show the changelog in NSU? I mean, this would allow people who were having a specific problem to see if the firmware update would help, and allow those of us who don't need an immediate fix or feature the luxury of holding off the update until it was most convenient. The backup never works correctly for me, so an update mean I need to do a complete wipe, sync, and re-install of my apps which is a bit time consuming.

Thank you for pointing that out!

Handy Taskman is showing almost 22 meg free RAM, 34meg free 'phone memory' (ROM?), and not much used space on the 2gig mem card.

Not running the N73 ME or IE F/W...didn't see anything compelling in it for me.

Here's what's on the phone:

v3.0638.0.0.1
30-10-2006
RM-133
Nokia N73 (01)

3 custom themes (phone memory), 3 games (memory card). 7 extra apps loaded so far (memory card). About 300 contacts, most with 1 phone number. ~400 calendar entries. 5 custom ringtones (phone memory).

No apps running (other than Handy Taskman) when I looked at that. BT was turned on and connected to my AX2.

I also don't keep a bunch of apps open & running to switch back and forth/around to. I open one, do what I need, and then close. I may be under utilizing that multitasking feature, but that's just the way I like to do it.

Can someone use the phone for a few hours/day (after the update) then open taskman or tasky, shut down contacts, log, gallery, camera, etc.; and tell me how much RAM they have left? PLS!

Also, can someone confirm if the phone runs any faster, yes / no?

After being up for a while and being decently well used if I close down all apps I have around 11MB of RAM free, have a hard time gaining anymore than that back unless I rebooot.

As far as it being faster I moved from the ME to this version of the vanilla FW, and yeah, its quicker, but I cannot say versus the last iteration.

I guess what I meant was that I had not seen that product code in any of the lists of N73 codes floating around the web. Any way to validate it?

Thanks for the answer. I'm running v.3.0638.0.0.1. It's a little slower UI than my friend's IE version that he just got. After running it for a few days, my RAM will hang around 12mb.

Do you see any other noticeable differences resulting from the firmware?
I think I'll skip this "little" update for the time being.
