*NEW* N73 Firmware: v3.0649.0.0.1

So the bluish haze is gone in the pictures now eh.... that was one of the main reasons as to why I got rid of it. So was it fixed in a firmware update or what?

I think I'm going to do the update tonite, as well. I wish I used the Music Edition features more, but with an iPod, it's hard to work with only 2GB, shrunk to .5 after movies and TomTom maps.

Stooopid newbie N73 Nokia/S60v3 user question.....yes I searched....but found little (actually no) information relevant to the N73. Just a couple towards the e61/N80....and those weren't all that clear (or within the past 5 months). A few comments that SMS weren't restored....

If....I backup my N73 using the current Nokia software..... Then update to this firmware..... Then restore the backup.....

Do I get everything back as it was before the firmware update? Like contacts, calendars, sms, themes, custom settings, installed apps (and their settings/databases), etc. etc.? IOW, all the stuff I've added to personalize the phone?

It worked this way for my Moto v635....just wondering how involved this is for the updating the firmware on the S60v3 N73 after you've set it up.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Well I cannot for the life of me get the NSU to let me move away from the new vanilla FW.

Also I believe I discovered the source of my slowness and it somewhat pertains to your question there hartphoto...

Before I tried to update my FW I backed up the phone to the memory card. Well when I was in the new FW and went to restore it did a partial job. It complained about insecure applications which I presume are third party apps as that is what the phone warns about whenever you install them. It did restore my settings but I have to reinstall thigns.

Now whenever I boot it tries to continue the restore and I cannot get it to stop. I removed the memory card and that stopped it, but who knows when I put the card back in. I will just reformat it. When it didn't try and restore upon boot I found that the FW I am using (Vanilla) is just as snappy as I recall the ME being. I have somewhat gotten used to the MM keys new (new to me, original FW's regular) function and I think I am going to end up using the IE FW. However I have tried various product codes and none of them seem to work. I have tried ME's and IE's and everytime NSU tells me I have the latest version. I might just be stuck with this FW for a while.... any ideas on this one? (I had to try a few times earlier to get from the IE to the vanilla, so not sure what is causing this). I also thought it was worth mentioning that I have tried rebooting the phone as well as this PC many times along with the process and I have to see what ocassionally allows it to update.

When you restore a backup to a new phone, there's going to be misc. files and whatnot that aren't there that need to be. Personally, i always just reinstall all the apps myself. It helps to put them all in the root of your memory card and then sit there with the phone and a file manager and install one by one. then go through and set everything else up. it's nice and clean and only takes about half an hour or so. the new firmware IS DEFINITELY much snappier than the ME firmware was.

the region code / product code I speak of can be found using some freely available software tools which are commonly associated with flashing the phone. I do not fully know the rules for linking to software so I am going to play it safe here and link to a guide... This is VERY simple and straightforward so I dont think anyone should be afraid of this. If you still dont have the update you could change your region code to one that already does and then when NSU checks your phone it will allow you to update it.

In order to get your current product code click the "read" button under the phone info tab. The guide will have you click the "write" button to overwrite your current one, click read instead to read it. Its probably worth noting and writing down just in case... I forgot to and kinda wish I did, not a huge deal though.

i donno if its just me, but i did find the screen much brighter after the reset when i turn it to max brightness...it might not be fw related, but thats how i feel *shrugs*

I am always skeptical of posts stating that the new firmware is "faster" than the prior version. It seems to be pretty common that any Symbian device (actually, even Windows Mobile devices) are faster when they are "wiped clean" and applications reinstalled.

Pure conjecture on my part. It will be useful to see the changes. After the last update, which fixed the "popping" noise on mine, I find the phone to be extremely reliable. It's the best handset I have had in a very long time...and I've gone through many.

Is the bluish haze fixed in the new fimware?

My dad just got an N73 and I get to play with it for a week. I tried to update the firmware an hour ago, but it says its up to date (3.0638.0.0.43)
