Reports are surfacing of the first feature musical from Dreamworks since Prince of Egypt. It's called Monkeys of Bollywood.

More can be found here.

I'm actually excited about all this news coming out of Dreamworks lately. It seems like they're stepping up their game.

Thoughts?

Apparently that is all anyone knows about the plot. I think the title is rather horrible, but I like the fact that Dreamworks is branching out and trying different things.

I think this is going to be a good decade of growth for them, artistically speaking.

I'm much more interested in what they have and are rumored to have in the pipeline than practically anything being rumored/announced at the other major Western players. Though I have high hopes for Selick's Cinderbiter Productions.

I'd like it even more if this didn't seem like a direct response to the success of Tangled. Still I'll wait to hear more before judging too harshly, as this could be interesting.

I must say, animated Ramayana musical makes me think of Sita Sings the Blues. Obviously it'll be a different treatment (Bollywood instead of jazz) but it does seem like Dreamworks has worked themselves into one of those "duels" they tend to get themselves into.

Jeez, it's like they're announcing a new movie every month! Other studios don't even come close to amount of feature films in their pipeline.
Except maybe Pixar. I met a guy who worked there, and he told me they're usually working on around 10 movies at any given time, they just don't release info publicly.

Of course, like in all cases, just because a film's announced in the works doesn't mean it'll actually end up getting made.

Dreamwork's your getting they're and I've said before you might topple pixar and disney like warner bros did those years ago keep going this way and you'll solidfiy your seat as one of the kings(or queens) of animation. The musical idea bothered me at first ebacsue i thought they would do a disney type film but bollywood as another poster said is truely daring for a childrens film and it sounds interesting.

Dreamworks doing a musical? And i thought I was seeing things...I would want to see a trailer before judging if this will be good or not. I wonder if this will be Dreamwork's parody of Disney musicals. Then again, this reminds me of Sita sings the blues.

Can't say I'm surprised and I can't say that Zed doesn't have a good point. Not that I fully agree with it. But it's an argument worth listening to, especially since it doesn't threaten violence or boycott over the issue. And I think one should respect at least that aspect if nothing else.

Please they're doing a film inspired by it not an adaption so shut up and leave them alone so they don't have to try and not make anyone mad.

Telling people to shut up doesn't seem very productive. Criticism is welcome. Obviously the filmmakers don't need to listen to such criticism if they wish not to, but I don't see the harm in people giving constructive criticism (and this sounds very constructive; they're not condemning the movie this early on and there's no ridiculous threats or anything).

They'res a difference between constructive critism and then telling someone they need to watch out or they could offend someone aka being pc.I'd be more set on the quality of the film and if they are inspired by the story take it as an honor bruce almighty anyone?.

I really think that's rude, there are tiers of offense and I think offending someone religiously isn't cool. Bruce Almighty didn't really disrespect any religion, it sounds more like a warning of "treat this with respect please."

Political correctness isn't necessarily a bad thing. Religion is serious to a lot of people, and you can take it seriously, you can satirize it in an intelligent way that would offend fundamentalists but not normal people with an open mind and sense of humor, or you can just be tasteless and offensive in general. Hopefully this movie will be one of the first two, possibly a mix, and avoid the latter pitfall.

Well you can think it's rude that's fine but the way i see it is that they're trying to tell these people "watch what your doing" and that's fine and dandy but why should they need to watch what they do? it's a touchy subject sure but why? are people really so easy to offend?.I think it says more about the people that they are so worried someone will destory it but it's a comedy I mean where did you read in the bible "and bruce then use'd his almighty god given gift to blow up a woman's skirt!" nowhere but people found it funny espcially christians and i think if you go into something hoping it won't offend you your more likely to be offended becasue you were waiting.Just watch the film for laughs and for what it is a story INSPIRED by the story not an adaption.

Um... yes.

Nobody's saying "you better do it right or we'll come get you!" or some nonsense. People are just asking for a certain level of respect to their religion. They want accurate or at least non-demeaning representation of their culture. That isn't too much to ask. Any film maker basing their film concept on someone's specific culture should have the decency to do that or they have no business making that movie. I'm all for artistic freedom and freedom of expression but there's no reason why they shouldn't treat another culture with respect.

Perhaps people are too quick to assume the film makers wont handle the Hindu culture with care but it certainly doesn't hurt for them to express their desire for them to do so regardless.

And I understand they want they're religon respected but if someone makes a joke about religon in a comedy club they'res nob acklash I mean if the films good and it's funny who cares as i said before bruce almighty could have been really offensive but it wsn't becaue when you go in thinking comedy it won't offend you.

Bruce Almighty may have offended some people believe it or not but Christianity is the most commonly joked on religion in America. Bruce Almighty was relatively harmless in my opinion certainly compared to some of the shows on Adult Swim or even Family Guy's depiction of Jesus, God, Christianity and Catholic lifestyle.

Religious jokes said in clubs can certainly be offensive and may cause backlash but only if said jokes are made by someone who isn't of that religion, unless it's a joke about Christianity because that's the one religion in America anybody of any background can dump on without any backlash.

People are generally fine about self-deprecation from someone of their own culture or religion. It's when someone of another culture cracks a joke about their culture or religion that they get offended.

I know nothing about these film makers or their background but I get the feeling if they were Hindu's then nobody would have even asked them to be careful.

Sure, sometimes people look for something to be offended by. There's lots of those kinds of people but a sensible person thinking they might get offended when they see said movie probably wont be offended if no jokes are made at their culture's expense. Likewise if they go in thinking it's a comedy and they come across a joke at their culture's expense they may not be so quick to brush it off.

Mindset isn't everything.

Regardless of your opinion that they shouldn't be concerned they do have every right to be. Just as in America we all have the right to believe whatever we want.
