New music. Does it exite like it did back in the day?

Are you asking how you quantify emotion or other elements of music, because that isn't really possible? However, I consider the major elements of music to be emotion, atmosphere and hooks.

There are many other elements like groove, heavyness etc... but they're more minor and some of them are more causal than others.

How did I "insult the genre" (which I have yet to do)? I have never called folk anything negative. The only thing I insulted was a guy playing an acoustic guitar, which Ethan keeps telling me isn't folk, but then says I was calling all folk pathetic even though I was only saying the former was. Anyone catch the logical fallacy?

Again, my worRAB on Emotion in music are being heavily skewed by everyone taking offence to my views in this thread. It is nice to have a strawman to attack though isn't it?

That's what I said. Stop ****ing misquoting me to improve your own sad arguements. My overarching point was that emotion is only an idea and without away to communicate that idea (i.e MUSIC) it's not very sharable. And the more time and effort put into the music, the more mentally and emotionally challenging the idea can become. Keyword is can. Because you're right, there some are some intensely ****ty "technical" banRAB.

Oh noes! You caught me! Of course I'm going to get riled up over this. IT'S THE ****ING INTERNET. In real life, I highly doubt I'd care enough to even make a comment. But online, where I have time to formulate what I'd say, you're damn right I'll reply to you. And you say blatant discrestions like I'm, without thinking, writing off folk. Again, I have never said (typed for you lawyers) ANYTHING negative against folk in this thread (and I'm pretty sure no where else on this site), so you can drop the attacks on that.

Not trying to turn around anything. I merely forgot to put a not in there, which obviously changes the meaning quite immensely.

To the first sentence, whatever.

To the rest of it, I'm tired of saying the same thing over and over again; I have yet to insult a genre of music and say that Cynic is better. I'm extolling thier virtues and took a few shots at Ethan's ever metamorphing tastes.

Unless someone brings something new to the table, I'm done with this thread. We're arguing in circles and no one has yet to actually make a point.

Do you think that is partly the actual physicality of buying vinyl and putting it on the deck? You can listen to a download repeatedly but owning the vinyl is something special and almost becomes a reward for parting with your hard earned cash.

I was talking about MODERN music and it's roots and you have gone off into a tangent. Technical music draws it's influence from mathmatical sums and theory. Technical music followed folk music though. Emotion was and is the key word to the formation of music and it's connations to it's relavent society. Although technical ability is regarded in many facets of society, the over riding opinion is the appreciation of the emotion of the song in the first place. You may well listen to a song and appreciate it's technical ability but music was never created for technical prowess. It was a tool of communication. Plain and simple.

I appreciate what you look for in music, but dissing other people for looking for something in music that you don't appreciate is narrow minded and a loss to your self. You should always be MOVED by music first, then IMPRESSED by it's composition.

Wow, that's hilarious. Definitely not me, people who've been here long enough know what I look like.

Plus his says wizardofgore, mine is wizardovgore.

And I really don't know where you're going with this.

lol. Keep telling yourself that some guy "singing his heart out" with an acoustic guitar is anything more than pathetic/fit for Starbucks

i understand. i wasnt attempting to into a tangent. i was writing what i was thinking, guess i didnt know it till you noticed it first. and i wasnt considering everyone else's taste. i was a bit narrow minded in that. i apologize

but some people are easily impressed by music before they are moved by it. being impressed by the composition makes it even easier for someone to be moved by it...

:)hey, I actually do tell myself that, seeing as i am the kinda girl who goes out and sings with my guitar...in better places then starbucks might i add
