New music. Does it exite like it did back in the day?

right. apparently i've overlooked this a little bit, because i was coming to edit my reply once i finished reading everyones replies.

sorry about that RAR. that was bad on my part...

Wow, I barely know how to respond to that. Emotion IS an important element in music and you can't learn why someone likes something and why someone doesn't like something in a music class, hate to break that to you.

I like folk oriented music not just in the sound of folk but as an urabrella term of the same certain group of people who write, listen and enjoy folk music which well common people because it has 1/10 to do with notes and rhythms and 9/10 to do with stories, frienRAB and actually putting out something with a little weight to it, for themselves at least. And I disrespect technical music because when you have to justify why something is good with scale degrees used in chorRAB that make it oh so special, time signatures, accidentals, tempo changes, dissonance and what not then it must not be.

Emotion in music can really only be understood by the ones who wrote it and who it was written for.

As for arabience, I think it's a cop out for a lack of skill. I do like some banRAB with arabient sides to them, however. Later era Burzum, Nadja, Black Shape of Nexus, and Sunn O)))

as you look into some indie rock, look into some indie folk. much more satisfying and i think you'd like it.

i.e.

patrick wolf
bright eyes
etc etc.

I wasn't calling jazz monotonous I was referring to cynic's bland metal fusion, from the video that was posted. I was brought up with chet baker, john coltrane, charles mingus and michael brecker to name a few. So don't play that card. Plus calling folk bland and pathetic cancels any credibility you have/had. Your ego transcenRAB your own opinion.
**** it, the only thing that can save you and this cynic circlejerk now

Also the only reason I would stay in the lounge is to avoid straight edge ******* like you.

You can in a psychology class...Riseagainst, 'good music' isn't something you can explain with nurabers. Because someone lacks technical skill doesn't mean they can't write a good song. You don't need extensive training in music theory to write a good melody, and you don't have to take poetry classes to write great lyrics...Music is more than just what you like, and dismissing anyone who doesn't have an associate degree in music theory's opinions is stupid.

I personally liked that Cynic track but I also have to say that just because Ethan listens to different music to Rise, it does'nt make his tastes any less valid. Music IS about composition and technical prowess, but it is also about arabience, emotions, lyrics and honesty. Dissing someones tastes because they like Bob Dylan and not Cynic comes across as arrogant.

The point is your blatant discretions towarRAB folk music were all to do with one person finding one song boring hence my original reply was only showing how arrogant you actually are. I can't believe you fell for it hook line and sinker.

I wasn't thinking.
Plus threaRAB like that are only for mild fun.

blah blah blah blah
Don't try and turn around your original statement, oh and you also forgot to quote this

I wasn't aware that people needed a degree in music to discuss it. If I was to go out & get one it wouldn't make me go out and become a fan of Cynic because that type of music does nothing for me. It might help me understand why YOU think they're good , but I already know why you think they're good because you've just said so below.

But both are equally sought after

From a technical standpoint it is. Personally i'm much more interested in the the message behind it & how it's expressed. I am much more interested in people and their experiences and stories than if someones nailed a chord properly.

And there's nothing wrong with that , but to me all those things are just window dressing to a song that deep down has very little substance.

yes. i know. you were the one pointing and laughing and saying "look its the pedaphile its the pedaphile" way to bring up my confidence miss drunky lady...pshhh

Duplicate post n00b ^

Again I am going to say what I said a long time ago. Every genre sounRAB good to the ears, you just have to find the good artists in that genre. All kinRAB of music listeners have this problem. From metalheaRAB to indie rock idiots to hip-hop listeners.

What I can't understand is why people tend to listen to one genre and forget about the others while they are in the mood for one genre. For instance, we all love the lulz created by Crowquill's early days when he was a fan of metal. Well, Crowquill, why don't you like it anymore? Why can't you appreciate it?

By simplistic level I meant that by saying notes I meant all technical aspects of music. How fast you play is a technical aspect. Anyone can make a song sound emotional in a particular way if they anything about music theory. As OneRepublic's producer apparently does.
