Just wondered if anyone thought there would be a new move that would top Titanics $1.8bn. LOTR 3 was just shy of $1.2bn

If so what do you think it could be? I felt if anything could do it it would be LOTR 3 but obviously not

Might seem an odd choice but The Simpsons movie (if it is ever made)

Titanic was a global cross-cultural phenomenon that appealed to all ages above about 12. People came again and again because it was an experience, not just a movie.

I'd have thought both King Kong and Da Vinci have no chance - the former's trailer looked like a tedious remake of what was a silly film in the first place (however influential), the latter will undoubtedly be huge, but it's just a popcorn movie that will annoy Catholics. A true phenomenon has to engage people more than that. As Steven21 originally said, even the mighty LOTR doesn't even come close (adjusted for inflation, it got half of Titanic's US gross). The Narnia films will probably be huge, but again not in the same league.

So no, personally don't see anything on the horizon that will come close to Titanic.
