This site is great. It has answered many of my questions, but I like to read-up on the techology and absorb it. I have done some google searches, but the results have not been exactly what I have been looking for. Sorry for this misspelling, but I do that more often than I like to admit. :) I thought that people here may have some good references....

Yes, you can receive BEV in Florida. The recomendation is a 24" dish.

Yes, you need a CDN address for billing. Without a phone line your reciever will pop up error messages, but you can cancel that in setup. You still need a paid subscription or your reciever will stop working.

Been lurking here for a couple of years, and finally decided to become a member due to today's experience with today's NFL playoffs.

What's the deal with Global's simulcasting of the broadcasts on both NBC and FOX? I seem to remember some threads awhile ago that the CRTC put a stop to it. As of last weekend, there was no simulcast on the HD networks.

I really don't have an issue with simulcast on principal. Sure, it's Canada, but why do they:

1) Put that annoying Global logo (what is it, a half moon or what?) on the screen. I know its Global, must I be constantly reminded?
2) I don't ever recall seeing FOX looking as grainy as it did during the Chicago/Caralina game. I project onto a 100" screen with a native 720p projector and it definitely looked better last week on FOX. Are they messing with the original signal?
3) Why the heck do commercials have to be 3 to 6 decibels higher in volume than the game? I was hitting the mute button immediately whenever it went to commerical. In regards to commercials, it also seemed like there were more of them! Are we missing parts of the game?

Please keep in mind that Tom's map shows Nimiq 1 only!

A significant number of the channels are on Nimiq 3; which shares the same orbital slot as Nimiq 1 and to our receivers in Canada appears to be the same bird.

Since I can't create my own thread yet (patiently awaiting)

I thought I could post here to ask a couple of very very NEWB questions.

I am a new Bell ExpressVu subscriber because I despise Rogers and everything they stand for along with what they try to pass off as customer service and/or technical help for internet issues.

Anyway, this is the first time I have ever had satellite service and I am a little overwhelemed by the wealth of information offered here in these forums. Some of the stuff sounds very technical I even reading it twice or three times, I still cannot understand it :D

OK now for my basic questions:

1. What happened to the Weather Network Channel offered by Bell? I hate to say it but I like the version offered by Rogers a lot better since it was restricted to Toronto weather info as opposed to the whole of Canada. The local forecast report really sucks.

Am I missing a channel or am I stuck with this version of the Weather Network in channel 505?

2. How can I get the Fox feed from Buffalo instead of the one from Boston in FOX-E? The shows broadcast in the Buffalo feed were a lot better since they had those comedy blocks of old shows like Frasier at 2am ET which is what I like to watch as I got to bed?

3. No TV Guide channel? not that I need it but I guess I am just trying to understand why there is a difference between channels (presumably the same channel lineup among providers) lineups?

Oh yeah and also because I have been using Rogers for so many years, I became used to their channel lineup and going to BEV is a big difference, I was looking for channel 22 for Sportsnet only to find it in Channel 404 lol

You're stuck with it. There is one with descriptive video under channel 200.
Try CP24.... that's what I use now.



Bell does not offer this channel. You can get Buffalo / Detroit on Starchoice but you can only get Boston on Bell (for nets east).



Once you get used to hitting "Guide" and seeing the guide from your receiver, you'll like it much better than that Rogers channel... you can see stuff up to 2 days or so in advance (at least on my 3100 unit!)

Tip: Make sure your guide has the higher channels on top (it's a setting). That's so when you hit "up" when you're watching TV, the channel goes up, and it also goes up when you're on the guide. My mother has her systems set up the other way and psychologically it messes with me, down for "higher channels" on the guide, and up for higher channels without... lol.



Lol, it does take a while to get used to. :) To me ExpressVu is much better than when I had cable. Now I only have Cable Internet (I don't like DSL and had too many problems with it), but I pay 3web for the priviledge of using Rogers line so I don't have to deal with Rogers.

I hardly notice the differences now... what would I do with crappy old Rogers now? Hope you enjoy coming over....
 
FYI
You can use the "favourites" option to setup your own channel lists.(TSN and such for you and Fashion TV for the wife)
I find it useful with 4 others using the tv.
Tip- to advance the guide just enter "x" number of hours(up to 48) and hit right arrow buton on the remote.

Yeah that weather network channel reeks lol but I guess I have to use their website now. CP24 is just one major cluster-f.

And yes, it takes some getting used to this channel lineup/order ... must admit though that these channels are all over the place and has to be re-aligned.

The picture IS a lot clearer here in BEV for me than it was on Rogers and I am speaking of the regular channels like CBC, etc.
 
This is my first and only BEV posting...
My tenant, next door asked for permission to have a BEV dish installed for 4 receivers. I made the condition that the dish was not to be installed on the roof shingles nor the siding. Since the installer couldn't find a sight line within these restrictions, I suggested he could install the dish on my 30 ft tower for OTA digital just above the roof line, which he did. Nice job and the wiring wasn't offensive.
Question, since the dish is on my tower and on my side of the fence line, would Bell remove said dish if the tenant moved or I sold the property or he cancelled his service? No doubt he is renting his equipment, I don't really know. Does anyone know what happens to the dish, does it stay there?
 
The tentant can take it or leave it, if they leave it there you and do what you like with it, keep it, use it, sell it or throw it away. Bell won't come to remove it as it is not worth the moneyfor them, they would rather have it stay there so that a future tentant may become a subscriber.
 
I've always wondered - Does Bell have the capacity to triangulate your physical location, or is that impossible?

Ie: in theory if I took my set up to a friends place for some reason and set it up there for a couple months do they have ways of knowing with some sort of ping or something?

I know that may seem like a dumb question but I've always been curious.

Impossible. The receiver is just that. It does not transmit anything. Unless you hook up a phoneline.
