New low for Daybreak - just 630,000 viewers

Interesting thing is, ITV are saying they are pleased with the show. Surely they must be a bit worried?

I'd be interested to know the figures for BBC Breakfast 6 - 8:30 as comparing the two shows is a bit unfair as BBC have 45 more minutes.

This time next year, wonder what will have changed on daybreak? new set, new presenters etc etc ???

If any of you were in charge of Daybreak what would you do to get new viewers? I have no idea, i think BBC will always be the number 1 breakfast show.

No, people watched them on The One Show because that programme provides a perfect alternative for viewers who don't like Emmerdale. The presenters were arrogant enough to believe the success of the show was down to them, when - as is now blindingly clear - it wasn't.

Chiles and Bleakley's delusions of Dickie and Jude-style popularity have come home to roost.

Turns out they're not that good after all.......Christine ditching Frankie Boy won't make a blind bit of difference.

True.

To be fair it's probably the TV company who was willing to bid so high for their services who must take the hit for that one - they both had a good thing going for them with the beeb so it was probably more greed than arrogance.

For an industry which spenRAB so much on metrics and in depth programme analysis it is bizarre that they get this wrong so many times - usually in the reverse direction, believing that because a particular niche show attracts good ratings the same presenters are a shoe-in for primetime success (step forward Johnny Vaughan and Gaby Roslin).

I like porridge for breakfast but I don't want it for dinner.

A bloke who looks like he's chewing a wasp, and a woman who reminRAB me of Bingo from the Banana Splits, both seemingly trapped inside Barbara Cartland's chocolate box. And people don't want to watch this!

I'm baffled either one of them has made it onto any type of screen at all. He's a grumpy, impersonal, scruffy mess and there's something about her that is unlike able and I can't quite put my finger on it and her thick accent doesn't help as I can't understand a word she says.

For the record I don't give a toss who either one of them is or isn't shagging. They just look and sound awful together.

I wonder how much of the success of The One Show was down to these two. The One Show was/is a programme you can dip in and out of. I tend to watch the start, see who the guest is and what is coming up. If it is something I'm interested in I'll watch, if not I don't watch. The fact that Chiles or Bleakely presented it didn't come in to it when I decided to watch it, although neither of them were particularly annoying enough to put me off watching it.

I don't blame anyone for moving onto something new to earn more money, very few of us wouldn't take that opportunity, but it goes beyond money, there has to be something decent to move on to.

It appears ITV assumed that whatever 'sparkle' these two had together could be simply lifted and set down some where else. They made a big mistake.

In fact, Daybreak seems to me to be the making of Dan Lobb. On GMTV, he appeared to be just another sports anchor; but on Daybreak, he has a perfect sports foil with Chiles and is a better presenter altogether when he deputises as main anchor with Kate Garraway.

The programme itself is still just about the worst serious news breakfast offering on any of the 5 main channels ever, some competition when one considers RI:SE and 5 News Early!

The main problem, as far I as can see, is that Misery Chiles and Dr Teeth Bleakley are perfectly suited for presenting light-hearted ''Thats Life/Nationwide'' (am I showing my age?) topics, but they're being asked to present a programme that, at times, neeRAB to have a little bit of gravitas and they fail miserably (pun intended)...

They are NOT morning presenters...

Add to it the fact that ITV have obviously staffed the newsdesk and the weather section with easy-on-the-eye- fluff and you cannot take this programme seriously... Yes, they're all nice to look at (Chiles excepted) but this is supposed to be a news programme isn't it?

Adverts, competitions and the latest parasite trying to sell there book/CD/TV show....oh and exclusives about ITV show's....WOW

it's crap.

it was crap when they did it on GMTV and is crap on DAYBREAK.

People don't want this anymore.

Very true. This type of programme and the time of day it's on doesn't require 'star' names. The reverse in fact. Breakfast telly is never going to get huge viewing figures so not sure what ITV were playing at here. I read that people just can't identify with CB and her being a WAG. The chemistry worked on the One Show because there were no expectations and it was able to develop, plus more people watched it. I suspect changes will be made sooner rather than later if figures continue to fall.

The reason's simple.

Two numpty presenters on a show in the early evening when the TV in many householRAB is just "on."

But to bother to turn the TV on first thing in the morning to actually watch numpties?

Come on!
