Hi, new member here!
With the higher ups on the Kung Fu Panda 2’s production team saying this sequel will be more “emotional” than its predecessor, possibly touching on Po’s early life and other “rough” subjects, I can’t see wait to see what we’re all in store for.
In the meantime, I’ll pick the trailer apart since I wasn’t fortunate enough to snag a 45 minute pre-screening…
(0:06) The first scene shown (however brief) is an interesting one, considering the sequel’s villain is previously noted on the Dreamworks website to be equipped with lethal claws. Seeing Po in bandages certainly brings up some questions.
(0:10-0:18) The next batch of clips dealing with Po and Five is great to watch. Finally, we get to see Po in action beside them. These scenes remind me of the original’s stylized introduction, almost blow for blow. I like how there’s also a hint in the trailer of what we may get as a soundtrack item in the actual film… (0:15) look closely, is that a rabbit with a string instrument strumming in the background?
(0:27-0:55) Nice to catch a glimpse of Shen and the new masters we’ll be seeing. Their designs are slick— detailed but not burdened. Props to Nicholas Marlet on more great work in the art department!
When Shifu reveals to Po his next task is to “take the five”, I can’t help but wonder (excitedly) that they'll enjoy some well needed character development. And, while I don’t believe either will be entirely “written out”, it’s probably safe to assume Shifu will remain in the Valley and Po’s father in the noodle shop for the duration. Perhaps the family history reveal for Po will make up for his father’s absence and the new masters for Shifu’s…
(1:02 + 1:06) Tigress smiling and reaching out. It’s nice to see what may be some warmer feelings between these two, especially since Po idolized her in the previous film. Huh, Crane may be the only one noticing (1:06).
In the clips that follow: nice sight gag, Monkey actually speaking, and (I agree) Tigress being her fiery, awesome self is most welcome.
(1:32) This scene and the moments prior are what I’m looking forward to the most. Hands down. For maximum effect I think the trailer should have ended here, seeing all the gags that follow… it was like Dreamworks was trying to reassure the audience that this movie is still “gonna be sidesplitting-funneh!” in spite of all the seriousness hinted at just a few moments before. And I trust the Black Eyes Peas won’t be in the final cut. Dreamworks almost always pulls pop songs for their commercials rather than playing up standard movie-commercial or actual movie-score music. Most recent offender: Puss in Boots.
Overall, I’m excited by what I saw, but only time will tell. I really hope this is a worthy sequel coming down the pipe!
