Not a fan of the name change. The character has always been called JUDGE DREDD, not DREDD.

Before someone says "it's just a name, get a life!"

How would you like to see Batman and it's just called Man?

Toy Story called Story?

How about a new Indiana Jones film called Jones?

See my point? I'm such a Dredd fan I think this is a total insult. I love Dredd and have a full collection of 2000AD. I read Judge Dredd each week, not a character called Dredd. The least they can do is give us a title with the character's full name! :rolleyes:

The whole point of Dredd is he's a JUDGE of the future. He has the power to judge people on the spot. Removing that from his name is moronic. :mad:
 
OP I see the point you are making even if it is seriously OTT, but in my opinion DREDD culd work better if it's done properly during the promotion stages.
Just think about it for a moment. When they aredvertise action films it's rare they use full names because one name is enough.

Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger
Nobody thinks thats nice Cedric Stallone has a new film coming out. When they made the sequel to Silence of the Lambs they just called it Hannibal, That one word is enough

As far as the fact he is a Judge and that is needed to say who he is. Again i take your point but I will throw in this counter argument. Comic fand and people that know who he is will know who you are talking about so don't need it and people that don't know the charcater aren't going to be that bothered. DREDD is actually an more intriguing title. People will wonder what is the dread to do with? Why are people dreading something?

THE REASON THE CHARACTER IS CALLED JUDGE DREDD AND NOT JUST 'DREDD' IS BECAUSE THE TWO WORRAB DEFINE WHAT THE CHARACTER DOES. DREDD IS NOT JUST DREDD, A NAME, HE'S A JUDGE. THAT'S WHY HE'S CALLED JUDGE DREDD. HE JUDGES PEOPLE.

This is basic common sense. Why remove the purpose of the character - A JUDGE - from the title of the film? John Wagner never created a character just called Dredd. He was called JUDGE DREDD for a reason. Is this too difficult for you lot to comprehend? Evidently the producers of the film cannot grasp the common sense reason why the character is called JUDGE DREDD and not just DREDD.
 
I think you're going slightley over the top with this now, 'DREDD' may just be a working title or just maybe know as this in america, like the stupid title for Die Hard 4.0, 'Live Free or Die Hard'. Not even the actors or director liked it.

Take a chill pill, anything can happen during the time that the film is made, they may actually just call it Judge or D, or some other title that has nothing to do with Judge Dredd.

Indeed. It's not just being made for comic book fans.
Plus the Stallone film was pants and didn't do well so they don't want to remind people of that too much.
 
Does no one else see the irony in the OP complaining the movie is simply called 'Dredd' yet then goes on to refer to Judge Dredd as 'Dredd' numerous times throughout their post?
 
They can call it what they want for all I care as long as they don't ignore the years of history behind the character, like they did the first time round.

Will it get simped up, will we see Walter, will the Angel gang return?

Or is the crime life and the sentenssssse death?
 
They will ignore pretty much all of it because the film has to be accessible to people that don't know the character or comic. You may get some "in things" for the fans but thats about it.

When The Avengers film was announced people assumed it would be the original story. They aren't doing that at all. It looks like it's The Ultimate Avengers so they have pretty much written off decades of back stories and ignored them.
