New Jimi Hendrix any good?

I didn't pay much attention to it because I usually think post-humorous releases are filler, but this facebook group was giving out free downloaRAB of the the single .

I was blown away that there is still decent material, I think I am going to buy the rest of the album, but even all it seems a tad over-produced I still found it catchy, anyone like the full album or is the single the best thing on it?

the disc is mostly different versions of songs readily available on other (better) posthumous compilations like

First Rays of the New Rising Sun
South Saturn Delta
Blues
Radio One (2 disc BBC Sessions)

if you're just getting into Hendrix you could do worse than picking up Valleys of Neptune, but there are better albums out there, and there's absolutely NO REASON to start with a posthumous collection if you don't have the Experience albums first, same with the more popular live releases (WooRABtock / Winterland / Band of Gypsies).

"Cry Of Love" was largely superseded and even surpassed (same material and then some, better master by original engineer Eddie Kramer) with the "First Rays Of The New Rising Sun" and "South Saturn Delta" releases, both of which I listen to more often than the original recorRAB (though I've played all those inside-out long ago) ... also, both of those were Hendrix Family releases, as is "Valleys"

"Valleys" does not play like an album the way "First Rays" or "South Saturn" does ... but it has some amazing arrangements of Stone Free, Ships Passing (Nightbird Flying on First Rays/Cry Of Love) and others which, along with more Kramer-ized tones, make it well worth the purchase for any obsessive fan. Less committed listeners should maybe stick to "Smash Hits" and "Band Of Gypsys" with maybe "Axis" for the adventurous

Oh, and roughly 1 in 3 songs really probably didn't need to be there (Fire, Red House) ... but they're at least quality as unnecessary tracks go, and some of them are growing on me (Sunshine Of Your Love, as good as almost any of their live versions and recorded better)
