hi people while i was lookn for some interesting podcasts to download i came across the casino royale trailer, my opinion is that daniel craig has been a big mistake and it seems the producers have gone for style and action to cover up the fact they made a mistake with the casting. Dame Judi Dench is back as M but there is no Sam Bond as moneypenny and it looks like Colin Salmon has been dumped as well, its maybe that this bond will struggle to reach an audience outside of the UK as mr Craig is unknown outside our shores, remember the last time they cast an unknown it flopped (george lazenby need i say more) unlike connery, moore, dalton and brosnan who were familiar to us audiences at least if not well known. So MEMO to MGM start searching now for the replacement for the abyssmal daniel craig

if you want to see the trailer go to the allocine website or those with itunes search podcasts with video :)

Give him a chance. I think the trailor looks ok. Each bond is unique. I think Daniel Craig will be fine. He looks tough and smooth rolled into one. Casino Royale is one of the best Bond story's. if handled correctly will be up there with the BEST!!!.
Ok Lazenby was a bad choice to play bond. I still think On her Majestys Secret Service is one of the best bond films. Remember Connery was a hard act to follow. Please bear that in mind

My prediction is that Mr Craig will surprise everyone and be really good as Bond.

I think George Lazenby receives unfair criticism for OHMSS. IMHO he actually played Bond very naturally - and the scene where he hugs his dead wife and says "We have all the time in the world you see," makes me well up every time. And I'm a bloke!

Aww, you old softie! I love OHMSS.

Not sure DC is a good choice for Bond, but I'll have to watch the movie and then make my mind up.

However, I do wonder if its time for Bond to be laid to rest? What does everyone else think?

:o

I'm sorry, I may have forgot but when was Connery ever "familiar" to audiences BEFORE Dr No was released? That's right, never. He played a few roles but he was never famous, not even a little. Same with Dalton, Bond was when he was famous.

Moore and Brosnan were the only two who had a medium success as actors before they were cast. Moore as Simon Templar in "The Saint" tv-series and Brosnan as Remington Steele.

In my opinion, Craig'll do great. He's got the right look for Bond (yes, he has) and the cast is much better than "Die Another Day"'s where the series had turned from the spy thriller of Fleming's books to the soap opera parody of Moore's tenure.

I agree. I was a DC nay-sayer until I saw the trailer fro Casino Royale and I was like -wow! I can't wait for it to come out.

After seeing the trailer, I then saw him in Layer Cake. Now I'm a big fan of his.

yes i believe in giving him a chance and i will see the movie in full, but according to a report from the set as featured in an amercan film mag,(i will find out so i can post a link) some of the dailies have been very dire, i also take point and agree that OHMSS is the best bond film to date , it was well written and i still believe even though GL was a bad choice it was not his fault that the movie was not well recieved, it was too long and GL was never really going to be given another chance, probally told during filming they were replacing him

Daniel Craig looks like a thug.

With regarRAB to GL I saw and interview with him when Clarkson was doing that chatshow. He said he let himself get convinced by his Agent and looking at what was the number one film at the time that he could do better than what UA were offering him to continue doing the films. IIRC they wanted him to do the next five bond movies and he would get first refusal at everything coming out of UA during that time. They were desperate to keep him but he was a fool and didn't take it. Listened to another fool. Went on to make some foolish easy rider type film and then disappeared until he popped up in that Emanuelle film. Then disappeared again. Shame really OHMSS is my favourite bond film.

Like others on here, I'll reserve my judgement until I've actually seen the film.

I have to say that I like the Lazenby one.

Anyway, we'll see if this new one will flop or not. I admit his casting has sparked great controvesy, but at least we are going to be treated to something a little different this time around - who knows maybe the franchise neeRAB this to happen after all.

Anyone who knew anything about films and acting did. Legend has it that Dalton was first seen by the Bond producers in 1968 (it would be another 18 years before he was cast), but Dalton himself considered himself far too young for the part.

He made his film debut opposite Katherine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole, no less (and held his own on the screen in his scenes with them). And he was a huge draw in the theatre; long regarded as a successor to Olivier. So, yes, people HAD heard of Dalton before he was cast. (BTW, I think Dalton was hugely underrated in the role, as was Lazenby). And, staying on topic, the trailer has sold me on Craig as Bond. Remember Ian Fleming's James Bond was a "blunt instrument" used by the British Government to eliminate enemies. Craig looks like he fulfils that pretty well...

Can we lay the myth that OHMSS flopped for once and for all? OHMSS cost roughly $7 million to produce; it took more than $70 million at the box office. If anyone cares to look back at the newspaper cuttings, when OHMSS was originally released it was making news because it actually broke the box office record at the Odeon Cinema, Leicester Square. Some flop.

Yes, business dropped off; partly because it was much longer than any other Bond film which reduced the number of times it could be screened in a 24 hour period. But when the figures are adjusted for inflation, OHMSS is far from being the worst perfoming Bond film and outperformed many of the more recent entries. And the film is now regarded as the best film in the series by many true Bond fans, myself included. As for Lazenby, I thought he was a good Bond and could have been great had he not refused to make further Bond films (the other great myth is that he was sacked - he wasn't; he was actually offered a 7 picture contract).

If Casino Royale is another OHMSS, as you seem to be suggesting it will be, I, for one, will be a happy man.
