New James Bond film scrapped?

It's all to do with MGM which are going down the chute quickly. The same with the Hobbit.

We'll probably have to wait another 5 years or so for a James Bond movie, which probably means no Daniel Craig.
 
not surprising really. There are some pretty serious money issues at MGM (i.e. they don't have any),

A similar thing happened after Licence to Kill in 1989 so I wouldn't expect to see Bond return until 2013 or maybe even later.
 
It's a shame.

As people have said, I can see this delay being much like the Dalton-to-Brosnan gap in the series.

However, I'm not convinced it means Daniel Craig won't reprise the role.
 
The last good Bond movie was Tomorrow Never Dies.

The series died with the absurd and god-awful Die another day and the dreadful / over rated Casino Royale.
 
James Bond will make money that is a gaurentee so sooner rather than later the cash cow will be milked and there will be new Bond. I suspect this is various interests all circling the franchise to try and get the best deal they can.
 
Eon Productions (the Bond producers) released a statement a few months back saying the film wasn't in production but this new 'news' has killed off any chance of MGM ever funding Bond 23. Expect months or years of legal shenanigans as MGM tries to stay afloat - it keeps getting endless credit extensions - and then when it goes under there will be the two big studios Sony and Warner battling to acquire MGM's stake in Bond.

Bond will return but not for a few years. ;)
 
The six-year hiatus between Licence to Kill and Goldeneye crossed my mind too. I hope we don't get a repeat of it, although it wouldn't really surprise me if we did with the current state of the economy. It's a shame because I was hoping Bond 23 would get a 2012 release to mark the film franchise's 50th anniversary. There's still hope yet though.
 
I can hardly remember Tomorrow Never Dies now, I liked The World Is Not Enough though and Die Another Day has grown on me over time, although it was by no means a masterpiece.

I agree Casino Royale was overrated but Quantum of Solace was a return to form for me. Craig did great in the latter and I would hope he's got a few more films up his sleeve yet.
 
I thought they were going for a trilogy with Daniel Craig and that there was some story still to be carried over. I wonder what they will do if there is a long gap? I have to say I wasn't that impressed with quantum of solace... Maybe I just wasn't in the mood to watch it when I did, but it didn't seem to me to be that great.

I would say that the last one I really, really enjoyed was golden eye. But the world is not enough was all right, especially to see the certification logo at the start of the cinema screening...

"this is to certify that the world is not enough" it made me giggle
 
The most positive thing that will come from this is that Daniel Craig will likely not return but as the guy has the charisma of a chest of draws I'm glad.

Bond will quite obviously be back at some point but scary to think that the last classic Bond film was Goldeneye in 1995 so maybe better off leaving him to the history books
 
Yay.

I'm going to mix a suggestion with one someone mentioned on some other boardI was on. If it take 5-7 years for the next Bond, cast Daniel Radcliffe from Harry Potter as Bond, cast the girl who plays Hermione as the bond girl (the chemistry between them is massive), market it as "Harry now has a license to kill" etc.. and I garauntee that will make more money than any other Bond film has.
